We went to the coco reef resort last August and enjoyed the day- It is a small boutique style hotel with lunch. The hotel has a small pool and a nice beach. Lounge chair and umbrella are included. The hotel is located next door to the elbow beach hotel.

We might do the beach day again when we are in Bermuda in August. The hotel cost $60 pp and you do not pay unless you go. We did make a reservation on line without any deposit.

In the other thread it is reported that the price for 2015 is $69 per person over 12. I don't know what that means about under 12. Do they allow children under 12?

I know that Horseshoe has lifeguards. I doubt that Coco Reef does. The surf and rip tides can knock a five year over. Plus at Horseshoe there are calm tidal pools for children to wade in. That is why I would chose Horseshoe Beach

Horseshoe, definitely! Such a gorgeous beach, not to be missed!

I am always confused by the number of people that go to Coco Reef Resort when there are so many gorgeous, public beaches in Bermuda. Can someone explain that to me? I have seen pictures, and while the beach is gorgeous, what is the draw? I don't think they provide transportation in the $69 price! And I read that the food is just mediocre. Is it all-inclusive? Some people like the "free"drinks!

I never could understand it either.

The $69 doesn't include transportation.

It's not "all inclusive" so no free drinks.

I think that some people are stuck on the idea that Bermuda is like a lot of islands in the Caribbean or the Bahamas...that to have a pleasant beach experience you have to be sequestered on private property. Of course Bermuda is nothing like that. The public beaches are fabulous and safe...as we know!

It is really nice to go out on a quiet beautiful beach. Many of the other "free" beaches lack the amenities that the hotel offers. Towels to use, comfortable lounge chairs with umbrellas- a pool if you want to use it- a clean, safe well maintained rest room. The lunch is ok- but not the reason to go to the beach. If you take a cab- especially with another couple, the cab driver also provides you with a tour from the ship to the hotel. Of course you have to have a good cab driver.

We do not like large crowded public beaches- fighting people for a good spot with shade and a comfortable lounge chair and umbrella- which cost to rent. I even read that some people actually carry umbrella's and chairs from home and bring it on the beach with them- I do not consider that a relaxing day at the beach.

IMO the money is well spent at the resort. Everybody has an opinion that will vary- but having done both coco reef and a public beach- I can tell you nice to relax at the hotel-

My dh wants to snorkel on Elbow Beach. I want to lay around a pool under an umbrella. There are two changing rooms with a shower to rinse off all the sand right by the pool. The included lunch is right there--most reviews said it was a good pleasant lunch. I also would like to walk a little on the beach between Coco Reef and Elbow. We are in our early 60's and are just more comfortable not having to scramble for lounge chairs with umbrellas---am uncomfortable laying on the sand on a towel, etc.

So people have their reasons for prefering a day pass at a resort vs. hopping from one public beach to another.

You don't have to get a day pass at Coco Reef to snorkel at Elbow Beach or walk up and down the beach. It is a public beach. You will be at a public beach. Or to have chairs and an umbrella. There is a place at Elbow that rents, chairs and umbrellas. I rented a chair and umbrella cause I won't sit in the sand either. Also has restrooms. And there is a bar that will gladly take your money. Been there, done that. Spent about $30 altogether that day including a bar drink.

In four weeks I will be at Horseshoe because I prefer Horseshoe as a beach over Elbow. I think Horseshoe is a lot prettier and nicer to walk down, plus there are lifeguards at Horseshoe. But if my companions for some reason really wanted to try Elbow Beach I certainly would not spend $69 on a day pass at Coco Reef Resort. LOL. I would spend $20 for the chairs and umbrella plus whatever drinks I decided to buy.

But when you consider, you get the chair, umbrella, towels, access to changing/showering, a pool and lunch with a beverage and or wine- is $40pp consider a large amount to spend on a "shore excursion" when on vacation? I think a bargain. Horseshoe beach is pretty--but you can go to both as the ship docks for three days in Bermuda. If you have been to the island many times, and really aren't interested in sight seeing and shopping isn't great it is a option. Truthfully, the less people who go to coco reef resort- the less crowed it is.

To each his own. Enjoy your cruise.

It is $69 a person, not $40. Others have said it does not include free drinks, only lunch. I don't know the truth of that drinks or not, cause I am not interested, but no way is $69 worth it. The old price of $49 may have been worth it. Don't make stuff up, the price is not $40. Horseshoe rents chairs and umbrellas for a lot less. I have a towel from the ship. I would rather go to Horseshoe multiple days than Coco Reef but geeze I have been to the island many times too and like St. George and Tobacco Bay for snorkeling. There are chairs and umbrellas for rent at Tobacco too. I will go to St. George for sure one of the days and maybe Tobacco. Some depends on the weather. And there are other beaches too!!! As for a pool, I don't go to Bermuda for a pool. We have one here and I will use it often this summer.

The reason I said $40- is that I deducted the amount you will pay for chairs and umbrella- Also, you do get one large glass of wine with lunch which is worth at least $7. pp plus a tip should you desire. So I deducted that off of the $69 pp- Maybe it would be closer to $50 pp, which is still inexpensive for a full day shore excursion- with lunch. IMO.

$50 for lunch and a glass of wine is not worth it. I don't need shore excursions on Bermuda, expensive or inexpensive, it's not the Bahamas or Jamaica. I go to Bermuda for it's charm and it's beaches. A big part of the charm is getting around on my own, the relative safety, and not needing to do shore excursions! I hope Bermuda is never like it is in the Caribbean and that includes going to resorts with Day Passes which I would do and have done on some of the islands.

We also take a ferry one day to walk around the towns in Bermuda. Yes it is very safe- but I can say I never go on my own in Jamaica had an incident in Kingston with very aggressive cab drivers-we stay on the ship now ! And the Bahamas with the exception of Paradise Island is also a place we no longer do shore excursions. Maybe we are crusing too much- LOL- not!!!

I just came back from my first cruise to Bermuda Sunday. The weather was ver nice. I went to Horseshoe Beach on the first day and Tobacco Bay on the second. Horseshoe Bay was beautiful and there are some waves. Tobacco Bay had a very small sand area but the water was calm and I could see fish when I snorkel whereas I didn't see anything in Horseshoe Bay.

Beach Shuttle to Horseshoe Baby $16/round trip not to be confused with the public bus.

Tobacco Bay - ferry to St George 4.50 token each way and you can walk it to the beach. I didn't know so I paid 6 for a stamp that I can get on and off a bus that went in a loop. Tobacco Bay was 15 minute walk from the Ferry.

Thanks for everyones input, I would rather not deal with crowds so am leaning toward CoCo reef.If my granddaughter wants she can also get in pool. It sounds more relaxing to me to have everything right there.

We went here twice for the day..and if it's ease and convenience for you and your granddaughter this is perfect...the beach and loungers are nice if you want to swim in the ocean and the pool is also very nice and there are loungers by the pool...you get lunch and a beer or wine and the use of their facilities...

We went to Horseshoe Bay last Wednesday:

Beach shuttle $16 round trip pp

umbrella $11

chair $11 each

rum swizzle $9.50

jerk chicken $10.50

The beach is beautiful. We got there very early and had our pick of spots but they filled in as the day went on.

I could see someone wanting a resort feel.

I would have preferred a real sit down restaurant lunch with wine. That scenery just can't be beat.

Enjoy!

First of all to poster who made comment about not going to Bermuda for a pool. I'll have you know that I live in sunny CA and yes, we have a beautiful back yard pool. It is your right to enjoy Bermuda any way you want to. So if you prefer just enjoying public beaches, well good for you.

I certainly can figure out that I can walk along the public beach at Elbow all I want to. Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I need to explain things further to justify the people who just prefer enjoying a hotel resort.

Some people don't want to risk going to the beach and being told, "first come, first served" in regards to chaise rental with umbrella. We travel extensively, and yes, this has happened to us, rarely, but it has happened.

Some people enjoy being able to eat a pleasant lunch at a resort. Others prefer to wing it. We have done that and sometimes paid a small fortune for food that we weren't thrilled about. I'm diabetic and can't drink much alcohol. So that doesn't apply to me.

I wish that this resort hadn't raised the fee as much as they have done. But

we are on vacation. I can splurge a little, or I'd rather not go if I have to penny pinch. After going snorkeling in Elbow, which I may do with dh if in the mood, we like to be able to relax in chase loungers under umbrella at a quiet pool rather then on the beach. This resort just works for us for the day, even though, I am truely sorry that you don't approve, no offense: "Different strokes for different folks, applies.

It's difficult to explain the beach culture of Bermuda to those who have visited beaches on other islands. An umbrella and 2 chairs will cost $32 at Horseshoe Bay. If you feel that the lunch and pool is worth the extra $110 then by all means go for it. But it is not necessary to spend that to have a safe experience on a gorgeous beach. I'm traveling with 6 people. To spend $400 so we can enjoy the beach instead of less than $100 doesn't sound like penny pinching. It gives us more than enough to take a cab round trip plus sandwiches and sodas and then have money left over for the slot machines. The hotel is nice but it is not luxurious.

Again to each his own. IMO to spend any money in a casino is a waste of money.
