Everything Labadee Cabanas, including LOTS of pictures!

Hello friends! Well it's going to be a while before my next "LIVE" review so in the meantime I decided to create this thread to give you as much info and as many pictures as possible about the Cabanas at Labadee! They are listed as a shore excursion in the pre cruise planner for Royal Caribbean, and IMHO, the way to go when you call on Labadee. I know there will be some that will disagree and that's fine, if everyone agreed on everything the world would be a very boring place.

Over the course of this thread, myself, along with some of my friends who have had cabanas will give you as much info as we can on these wonderful places to relax, enjoy the beach, good company, and food :) And there will be plenty of photos too... I have had all three different types of cabanas at Labadee: Over the water, Beach, and Hillside. I have not had one at Barefoot Beach but my friend Anne(Annefran) and Bill(BILL-WI) have.

I hope this thread will prove helpful and entertaining for all of you, especially those that have cabanas reserved for upcoming cruises or those considering booking one. If you have questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer. If I can't, hopefully my friends can chime in to help.

Special thanks goes out to Anne(Annefran), Bill(BILL-WI) and Erika(Efields2) for allowing me to use their photos of cabanas along with mine.

I start the thread tonight but should be able to provide even more updates tomorrow as I will pretty much have a free day. So let's begin

I'll provide a map of Labadee as a reference:

Upon arrival at Labadee, you should get a good look at some of the cabanas. In these pictures you will see Barefoot Beach and the hilltop cabanas at Nellie's. Royal Caribbean ships almost always back to the pier, whereas Celebrity usually pulls straight in:

We'll use this photo to give everyone an idea of the entrance to Labadee:

044_zps9bad9d3a.jpg

Once you're at the end of the pier, go to the right of the two buildings you see at the end of the walkway and then make left to go through the gate. You don't need to go to the information booth that you'll see before making that left. Once through that gate, you'll see shuttle drivers. Just tell them you and your party have a cabana and they will drive you to the concierge who is stationed at the entrance to the cabanas. He will check your name off the list and then you'll be given a colored wristband which allows you entry and keeps others out of that area that didn't reserve one of the cabanas. Each member of your party gets a wristband.

A maximum of 6 guests are allowed for each cabana. After you're checked in, you'll be escorted to your cabana. You'll meet your attendant, who is there to make sure you have towels, bottled water, get drink orders made for you, etc.

OVER THE WATER(my personal favorite)

Over the water cabanas will be covered first. They are my favorite(and also the first choice of many others as well) They sit perched above the beach and the water and have great views(except for one which we'll get to in a little while).

They are the most expensive of the cabanas at 250 dollars but remember that's 250 for the entire cabana, NOT per person. So if you have 6 people sharing the cost, it's really not bad at all.

I'll post a few pictures to start and then continue in the morning as I'm pretty beat from work today.

Good morning! Time to get back to updating the thread here with more pictures and info. We'll continue with the over the water cabanas...

There are two ways to get to the water. One is via this ladder here:

This one also gives you an idea of the one I had from a different view(that's me waving in the blue shirt)

Just a note:

Labadee is my favourite port by far, so I have spent a lot of time researching everything Labadee. I'm no expert, but one thing I found was that the ships more often pull in straight, rather than backing in. We've only been there 3 times. The first time, there was no dock, so we tendered, but the other two were on the Liberty and Indy. We pulled bow first both times.

I even looked at as many Labadee photos as I could, and to me, it seemed that the ship more often pulls in bow first. The reason this was a question, is that I wanted to get the best view of Haiti, so we picked the starboard side on our last cruise.

Now, perhaps it varies based on the class of the ship?

On Oasis and Allure I know we backed in. I think Freedom does too. On Silhouette we pulled straight in so maybe it does indeed depend on class of ship

It is amazing to see the changes over the years.

The other way is to simply walking behind the cabanas down some natural steps which will take you to the beach and water. The cabanas to the right in the photo are also considered over the water I believe, I have not stayed in one of those:

Yes, the cabanas in the background (of the top photo) are considered over the water. However, the one on the far left has no water that it is over! Try not to get this cabana if you want a water view. I believe it is cabana #10.

Bill thanks for pointing that out. I couldn't remember which one it was. I also believe this one which faces in towards the entrance and barely over the water is one to try and avoid as well(the one on the far right)?

Which OTW Cabana do you recommend for ease to enter the water? Family of 8 going on the Feb. 8/15 sailing and we had booked two OTW Cabanas. Two in our party are in their seventies so may have trouble navigating the ladder. Thank you very much for taking the time to put this together.

The ones where I was at also have a walkway behind them which will lead you down to the beach.

I think that pretty much covers the over the water cabanas. Next we'll cover the beach cabanas. At this point, so the questions wouldn't get lost in posts, I'd like to see if anyone out there has any questions? I'll do my best to answer them

For Nellie's Beach we were able to previously book the cabanas online (December, 2014, on Allure). However, for an upcoming February cruise, this doesn't seem to be an option. Do you have any information if this has changed? Crown & Anchor told me that ALL cabanas now have to be booked either through the shore excursion desk (Nellie's Beach) or through the Concierge (Barefoot Beach) after boarding. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this procedure?

Great pictures, I love the cabanas! :)
