Default Cruise car parking in Auckland

Hi David, Stu and anyone else who can help.
As we live out of Auckland by about 260 kms, we would like to drive to the ship in Auckland.
We have done it previously by parking at the airport and getting a taxi / shuttle to Princes Wharf.
However costs have gone up considerably and on top of the parking charges there is a $60 ea way cost.
Any suggestions from "the locals".
Many thanks.

Hi Pete,

I was only aware of airport parking, however I came across this one that may be worth checking out.

http://www.spacestationstorage.co.nz/

They do say car storage on the web site , but are a bit vague about it. If the cars are stored on the actual site in Parnell , it would be ideal. I think the area they are in is where they have a Saturday market. There are quite a few large old warehouses around there.

The other one that might be worth a look i, s the new Britomart Parking Station . Location perfect, just walk over the road. I dont what the costs would be , but being new , they are chasing business.

Further to Petes question can anyone tell me where to park the car when dropping off passengers but also wanting to park for a short time to view the ship. I presume there is a viewing area? I've only disembarked at AKL not embarked since the 1970's....lol.

You drive through the gate controlled by Wilsons Parking and drop passengers and luggage off, but there will usually be someone around telling you to move on. We have then drven back out, no charge due, and then either park on the Viaduct Parking area , which is a pay and show , or head into the Downtown Carpark building which is just acoss the road , and pay on the way out.
For the Viaduct parking turn sharp right as you come off Princes Wharf . It is in the open , on an old wharf.

Hi Gold Coast Cruisers

Parking on the Wharf in Auckland go onto the Wharf the first section is pay and display was expensive. Then if you go through the Wilson Parking Booth/Boomgate it was $15.00 I think was for 4 hours or 2 hours don't quote me but you can maybe find the website and it will give you the exact time frame for the $15.00. Sorry I can't be more accurate.
You can then walk to end of wharf and up the stairs onto
the platform, or just stay on the end of the wharf for a perfect view on sail away.
If you go up the stairs to platform you are about one level below promenade and can still talk/yell out to the passengers from there.

And yes the carpark across the road is ideal as well. There prices should be on website as well.

Watching Sail Away from Auckland is great...

Cheers

Hi,
Thanks. This is where we park when we fly. An excellent service.
Unfortunately, on a 14 day cruise, the cost of the shuttle before and after the cruise almost trebles the cost of parking.
But there doesn't seem to be an alternative at the moment.

It was in one of the Sunday papers that they had a special on and mentioned cruise ships but didn't check it out
