S. S. Andrea Doria

Recommended Posts

The Dayton Daily News of May 22, 2016 published an article titled: "Explorers to create a 3-D map of shipwreck".

A state of Washington based ocean exploration company is planning the first manned submersible expedition to Andrea Doria. The company is called OceanGate based in Everett. Their goal is to obtain high defintion video and 3-D sonar images of the ship. They will use a 5 man submersible called Cyclopus I next month to try to do this.

Out of personal curosity, I hope they succeed with their endeavor. But, from a practical point of view: why are they doing this? Is there anything more to be learned from an accident that should not have happened? Is it solely for the Company's "potential" financial gain?
