Madeira Happy Tours

Stopping in Madeira on Vision of the Seas in November. Has anyone used Madeira Happy tours for shore excursions? Any comments?

Yes, we used them a couple of years ago and we were very pleased with their service. We expected a mini bus to meet us at the port. Instead, there was a driver/guide with a very comfortable Mercedes.

He spoke excellent English as he had lived in SA. I recommended them to some elderly friends and they used them last year. They were also very pleased.

I am sure you will enjoy it. If you haven't been to Madeira before it is a beautiful island.

We were in Madeira for 2 weeks and booked all of our tours via Marco of Madeira Happy Tours.

Having just been to Madeira for a week you will find most of the taxi drivers also market themselves as a "tours" company.

We took a few taxis from Funchal centre to the hotel and most drivers gave us a card with their tour company details.

Trips were €40-100 for the taxi depending how much you wanted to see. Good value if there are four of you.

It may depend on the number of people who have signed up for the tour.

When we used them in November a couple of years back for the West Island tour, we were met by a minibus that fit about 16 (or 18) and then went driving about Funchal picking up others at their hotels for about an hour before finally hitting the road on the actual tour. To be fair, some of the delay was due to people not being at their meeting point when they should have been, so the whole bus was kept waiting.

The tour was good (not great), but we did feel rushed at times. For the price it is a reasonable value.

Perhaps the East Island is not as popular and you will get a smaller touring vehicle.

We were satisfied with the tour as the driver was friendly and spoke excellent English. It was supposed to be a half day, but lasted about 5 hours. As we only paid Euros12 each we thought it very good value.

We will arrive by cruise ship and are looking at Happy Tours. Since we only have one day, we are wondering whether to chose west, east, north or south tour. Would appreciate any advice

For what it's worth, we directly asked Madeira Happy Tours this question, specifying that we wanted to take the most scenic route. They recommended the West tour.

Duh! I've become so dependent on Cruise Critic and Trip Advisor I forget about going right to the source for an answer. Thanks so much for the info.

The 12 Euros was per person, which was cheap, especially as we had a very good guide with a Mercedes car for just the two of us.
