Default Princess boss "hopes to pick up former OV customers"

"TTG Live" have published the following:

"Princess woos Ocean Village cruisers

Monday, March 15, 2010

Rob Gill

Princess Cruises hopes to pick up former customers of Ocean Village as it launches its biggest programme in Europe during 2011.

Carnival UK-owned Princess will be operating seven ships in Europe next year, an increase from the six vessels sailing in the region during 2010.

The line, which releases its 2011 programme today, is increasing its Mediterranean fly-cruises which it hopes will help attract Ocean Village passengers. Ocean Village, also part of Carnival UK, will disappear as a brand later this year.

Pieter van der Schee, head of brand marketing for Princess, said: “With the additional capacity of fly-cruises, we think we will appeal to Ocean Village customers looking for other opportunities.

“Princess has a more American style and it’s a slightly more upmarket version of the more informal style of cruising which Ocean Village offers.”

Grand Princess and Crown Princess will be again be based from Southampton while Ocean Princess will sail from Dover. The line will also be offering three-night weekend itineraries from Southampton for the first time.

“We’re not just having more departures from the UK, we are also adding more itineraries,” said van der Schee. “This is real growth for us in the UK.”

Princess is substantially increasing capacity in the Baltic with the 3,100-passenger Emerald Princess sailing from Copenhagen.

Capacity is also being doubled on the 12-night Grand Mediterranean and Greek Isles itineraries which will be operated by both Star Princess and Ruby Princess.

“The Greek islands cruises are more popular in the UK than the Western European itineraries,” added van der Schee."

Princess are a bit too American for me. I'd perhaps do the British Isles cruise on Crown for the novelty value but that's it.

Good luck with that!

The only Princess ship I'd be glad to board would be one that was rescuing me from a lifeboat! but having said that I'm sure they would expect
  • A tip for getting you out of the water
  • A boarding tip
  • A tip for stowing your life jacket
  • A tip for using the towel to dry off
  • A tip for showing you to your cabin
  • A tip for using the toilet
  • A tip for the toilet paper
Lets not forget the additional fees for being British, Fuel Fees, Transfer Fees, Disembarkation Fees and the $12 a day for just walking on the ship.

If you've lost your wallet, don't worry they give you the option of phoning your bank to provide them with a mandate to pay them directly (for a fee of course!)

No problems finding the uk site for us, booked another cabin on Ruby last night for Heathers girls who will now be joining us for our wedding cruise.

Price was also very favourable compared to the rip off that OV has become.

Good to see another cruise line offerimng their alternatives to OV, it beggars belief that P&O appear to not want us.

Sea Princess Carribbean cruises worth a look at, similar sized ship to OV, Barbados based cruises and about 70% of the passengers are from the UK.
