I am showing my general ignorance of the area, but how safe are tours in Oman. Do the tour providers provide additional security? Is it necessary?

I am showing my general ignorance of the area, but how safe are tours in Oman. Do the tour providers provide additional security? Is it necessary?

I have been to Muscat on three occasions. The first time, being a solo traveller, I played safe and took the ship's organised tour Mystical Muscat was on RCI Serenade of the Seas then). The tour included the mosque, the Muttrah Souk, the Bait Al Zubair Museum and the Sultan's Palace. when on MSC Orchestra I used the hop on hop off bus - excellent value and did not feel nervous about getting off at the various stops en route to explore places I did not see previously. You will, I am sure, enjoy Muscat and all the Emirates.

Oman is very safe.

No additional security personnel on tours as it is not needed.

We felt not only very safe there but safer there than in many areas of the world.

Totally safe and secure from my experience, been there six times in the last year. Although it seems you're not safe from terrorism anywhere these days with the recent ISIS attack in Kuwait! (http://edition.cnn.com/2015/06/27/world/kuwait-mosque-attack/)
