Hello! Wanted to find out if you feel that is better to do an excursion on Mykonos or do it on your own. If you do not recommend and excursion... what do you recommend? Thank you..it's 7 of us, in our 30s.

Hard to answer without knowing your interests. On our first visit, we walked the town, very pretty, nice restaurants and bars, windmills etc. We are returning next fall and will take the ferry to Delos.

Mykonos is a wonderful town for walking! Face the town with the harbor to your back..walk around to the right..all the way to the end and then around that end, walk along the path closest to the water..you will find cafes and little shops and then, Voila, there are the windmills..you can sit and sip and look out at the lovely scene and if you look back to your right you will see the colourful shops hanging over the edge of the water..so photographic!

Walk back the same way, just opposite the tiny church at the harbor go inside where the restaurant is..look to your right and you will see another entrance to a small church..look up on the steps..this is where the Pelicans like to hang out..they are huge! Back to the harbor..walk back to the center of town and a little to the left..go straight back..some gorgeous sights.

So much to see and do here..great food and places to sit and watch the locals! Enjoy..you don't need a tour in Mykonos!

We really enjoy renting a car for the day. Since you have seven people you would need two cars. You will be there before the season so there will be little trafic to worry about. This would enable you to see the island and some of it's many beaches. Definitly watch the movie Shirley Valentine to give you a feel for Mykonos. You can then find the beach and tavern where the film was made. There is a car rental place once you leave the port. Just leave a little time at the end of the day to visit the town and see the windmills.
