Suggestions on excursion wait list

We are departing on the Regent Navigator next month with another couple. The concierge suites allow early bookings for excursions however we booked our cruise after the early booking cutoff date. We attempted to book the champagne & lobster catamaran cruise but found it was completely filled and we were placed on a wait list. Has anyone experienced this and can you tell me if Regent will contract a duplicate excursion if enough passengers are on the wait list? Thank you.
