Default Door Decorating, do Princess cruisers do it?

So I was browsing on the "cruise rituals" forum and I saw a thread about door signs. It seemed like a lot of the people who were posting were cruising on Carnival and RCL. It got me wondering...is this common practice on Princess ships or is generally thought of a tacky?

I told my DH about it...and he thought that a little something on the door could be fun, but we also don't want to stick out as Princess Cruise virgins (or cruise virgins in general).

Lots did on my past cruise, which was over the Christmas/NY holiday. I've seen the occasional door decoration on other sailings, too; there's certainly no prohibition against it but it doesn't seem that common. And if it's a sailing with lots of pre-teen kids, I'd expect even odds on having something removed. But go for it, if you want.

Once in awhile we see someone with something on their door on Princess, but not many seem to do it like they do on other cruise lines.

I'm picturing lots of knocks, pranks, and interruptions with a Just Married sign. Don't think I'd want that kind of attention on my honeymoon.

To the OP: I decorate my door sometimes. It was fun to do at Christmastime. No plans to do it on my next cruise, though.

that's what we were thinking about doing since this is our (slightly-belated) honeymoon! I saw one poster who said that they hung a piece of poster board on the door that said "Advice for the newlyweds" and hung a Sharpie next to it. I guess they got some cute little tidbits.

We put a sign up on our last cruise. As it was a holiday cruise, many people had put up large bows, wreaths, kid's drawings. I wouldn't put anything valuable on the door as you never know when someone will take it.

Even at Christmas door signs are few. Any decoration on the door needs to be flat so that it doesn't get knocked off when either you or your steward goes in/out.

There is a "mailbox" just outside of the door with room number and a place for incoming notices, Princess Patters, and advertisements. Those get decorated heavily during the holidays.

We have seen the occasional tour group or family reunion group hang signs advertising they are part of the group.

Who cares what other people think? If you want to do it, go for it.

I hung a big Happy Birthday banner on our door last week on the Golden because it was our daughter's 11th bday. She loved it.

Often see "Just Married" balloons that Princess puts on the doors of newlyweds.

Saw quite a few cabin doors made to look Christmassy on Coral Princess last year over the holidays. Nice reminder of the season given the heat of Panama.

We were on one cruise where a couple who were into photography had a picture printer with them. They covered their door with pictures from the cruise. When the door was full, they started covereing the adjacent walls.

The Cruise Director and many passengers would go by there daily to see the latest posted pictures.

It is done a lot over holiday seasons, birthdays and anniversaries. I recommend the the decorations be attached with the 3M Commander product as it breaks away when finished without marking the door.

That's a really neat idea! If it weren't for the fact that my luggage will probably already be bursting I would absolutely do that!

We were on the cruise last Christmas with rdsqrl and brought a pack of the stays-on-by-static-electricity plastic decorations. We hung the holly wreath and it was there for the entire cruise without any problem. At the end of the cruise, we gave the package to our casino bar waitress who loved having them.

PS - makes a great way to find your cabin at 3AM after a long partying or gambling night.

Shalom, Andy.

Are the doors metal? If so we'll print our Christmas decorations on magnet paper.

We did it at Halloween. Lots of doors were decorated then.

One of our cc group also made us little signs with our cc group name on it and we all had them on our doors.

When you put it that way, the practicality of it might just outweigh my concerns about being "too tacky" ! I'm directionally challenged at home...I can't imagine how bad I'll be at 3am, on a giant cruise ship facing a loooong hallway of identical doors.
