Default How far in advance do you book 4 HC room

After reading recently here of the difficulty some PC cruisers have encountered booking HC rooms just wondered how far in advance do you book to ensure you get the room you need.

I encountered (luckily) very little difficulty booking a HC oceanview for the Med on Independance OTS for 5/08 but can imagine wanting to cruise again the 10/08.When would you advise booking?

Thanks for any advice Doc 07

We try to book as soon as bookings are being taken. This is often 12-18 months in advance. Many popular cruises on ships with smaller numbers of adapted cabins will be sold out almost immediately after the schedule is posted. We have been lucky a few times and been successful with "last minute" (in the last 1-2 months) booking, but it is usually because of a cancellation. You have to also be very flexible in where and when you go to use this option.

We booked over a month ago for RCCL IOS transatlantic in Nov/08. We always get a balcony of some kind and since we wanted to do a westbound Transatlantic, there wasn't a lot of choice in lines & cabins for an HC. As it was, we got the last HC-JS available.

We often book as soon as we know a certain cruise is available. We wanted to book a HC cabin for the Island Princess Panama cruise in Feb 2008 last June. and they were all gone so we are going to Hawaii instead. Just got my confirmation for the Feb 2009 Panama cruise on the Coral today. Several of the HC cabins were already gone...We prefer a non-obstructed balcony when we cruise, most ships have 6-8 if you are lucky. Many older ships only have inside HC cabins and 1-2 outside. We hate giving the cruise line such a big deposit so early, but we feel we have no choice. It would be wonderful if the new ships used universal design that would make all cabins equal for both AB an HC....it would solve many problems.

We have a real problem now...DH has ALS and it is such a progressive and fatal disease we can't book far in advance. We had a TA for Dec. which had to be cancelled. We now have a Caribbean on HAL in Oct. on which we were able to get an HC but in the very front of the ship and not the most desirable location. Unfortunately we can't find out if the HC's are taken by AB or disabled so it is hard at short notice to get one.

We book the day the cruise opens. That is our only way we been able to get a room. We booked a cruise in April of 2009 in May of 2007. We were told by our TA that there is already a wait list for our room. I think this ship only has 4 wheelchair rooms.
