Can you bring your own soda onboard and to the dining rooms?

My daughter is cruising in November on the Gem and heard that NCL serves Pepsi instead of Coke.

I believe I read on these boards that you can bring your own soda onboard, but can you also bring it to the dining rooms for dinner?

Or are you limited to the cabin for consumption?

First of all: "to each their own". Your vacation is your business!

With that out of the way: it astounds me that people want to lug around HEAVY cases of fizzy sugar water! In a vehicle, then through a cruise terminal, in the boarding line, onto the ship, etc! All in the name of a certain brand of fizzy sugar water. If you don't like Pepsi (I don't either!), drink something else! Water is a good choice, or juice, or lemonade, or coffee, or... You get the idea. Enjoy the cruise and ports of call... Surely the soda brand wont ruin the vacation, will it?

You don't mention your daughter's age, but maybe this is a (small) opportunity to teach her that the planet does not rotate around her desires, and she will actually survive without her favorite soda. She might even break that soda habit and you can thank NCL for the lack of Coke.

You can bring it. but it doesn't mean it will make it to your room. I would put notes on them saying for my daughter. I have brought water some times it makes it to the room sometimes it doesn't. But you roll the dice! Good Luck!

I am sure as it doesn't answer the OP's question it won't be welcomed, but I thought your advice was very well said.

I'm a diet coke drinker (so what sugery drink is someone referring too?) and I dislike Pepsi. I will bring my own diet coke on board and get a glass of ice when needed. With a fridge in the cabin it will be cold enough most of time.

So, you are not allowed to bring your own soda onboad?

BTW, my daughter is 38 years old and she is going on the cruise with her DH for his birthday (I will not be with them!) :D

She loves Coke and hates Pepsi and asked me about this.

I do not drink soda and never cared what they have onboard. I suppose it is important to her since she loves to have a Coke at dinner and once in a while in her cabin or on deck.

I would guess that there is a difference as there is a difference in different brands of spirits and beers.

Getting back to my original question...if placed in a suitcase, would it arrive at her cabin or would it end up in the "Naughty Room? :)

It will not end up in the naughty room. It will make it to the cabin. I always bring water. It's not a hassell at all. I buy it at a store near the embarkation port and don't have to lug it through anywhere because I just stick a luggage tag on it and turn it in with the suitcases and have always gotten it. Did this only once with soda and got that too. I don't know if I've just been lucky but it has never been an issue for me.

Your daughter will be on vacation. It is not a time to deprive yourself of things that you enjoy. On the contrary, it's a time to indulge yourself a bit. Don't let the judgemental people get you down. Hope your daughter has a wonderful time.

I wish there was a 'like' button for some of these posts. :)

To the OP: I've never had problem bringing pop on board, although we only bring a little bit - enough to get us to the next port. But we've seen lots of rooms on embarkation day where, right beside their luggage is a case or 2 of soda, water, juice, etc. It's not a problem.

I can't recall seeing someone bringing their can of pop to a dining room, but then again I don't watch everyone and what they do or don't do.

Tell your daughter to enjoy her cruise!

I used to be a big pepsi drinker but quit it all. But I know people who cant live without Coke so I get it. I was actually considering the soda package for my first cruise (in September) as I do enjoy a bit of sugar when Im relaxing but decided I likely wouldnt drink enough to make it worth it.

What drink options are included? water, juice? Iced Tea (American style or sweet?)

I love Diet Coke and always check some in with my luggage. One case of Diet Coke and one case of Caffeine Free Diet Coke (for the evenings). They require that you attach a luggage tag to each case and the porter can help you with this. My Cokes always arrive at my cabin safe and sound. I usually drink it in a nice travel mug.

American (unsweetened) iced tea is available on the ship. I don't especially enjoy tea so I brought along one of those little bottles of liquid flavoring that is used in water. It's unsweetened and the peach flavor was delicious in the iced tea. :p

Coffee, hot and cold tea, flavored (and sweetened) water, and milk, juice, and packets for making hot cocoa with water are available in the morning at the buffet are included at no extra charge.

We do exactly what you do with our case Diet Coke. We just tape our room tag to the case, leaving the end up-taped so porters know we haven't opened the case and put some other adult beverages in there. It always arrives in our stateroom, usually later in the evening on day of departure. Never had a problem!

OP, tell your daughter to enjoy her cruise!

I packed a case of water and the small bottles of Coke in a duffel bag and put my cabin number on them. I've done that on my three cruises and never had a problem with things not showing up in our cabin.

Yes, you can take our pop to any restaurant and they will bring you a glass of ice for it. In some of the dining rooms the servers actually opened our bottles and poured them into the glass. We didn't ask them to do that, they just arrived with a glass and took the bottle off the table. At Ocean Blue they gave us fancy glasses to put our coke in.

I hope your daughter has a great vacation enjoying her tasty beverage :)

Hey. To each his own is right. My wife is a Diet Pepsi addict...and is planning to stay one (I like my beer and coffee...not together though). We always bring two 12 packs of Diet Pepsi on board. We replenish it at port stops if necessary. Yes...you will see my wife with a can of Diet Pepsi in her hand frequently when we walk into an MDR or the buffet (we get free wine in the specialty restaurants). We do all the above and intend to continue doing so.....proudly! Oh, my wife make really nifty crocheted huggies for her Pepsi cans. About half the NCL restaurant staff think they are really neat and now own one. Wife makes lots. We don't bring water though. Ship water is excellent.....or we think so.

It includes all drinks with out alcohol? water juice milk...I drink a lot of club soda so it's still worth it for me. plus the collectable cup is nice for coffee too so you're not relying on the small mugs they give you.

great post: I remember when we used to bring our wine and pay the corkage fee; About 2 years ago, we said: forget this, it is too heavy, a hassle and we gave it up. The same with water: bring a bottle of water or 2 on board and fill them in your cabin, the water is very good: soft drinks, I guess cause I am not a soda drinker, I can't imagine lugging a couple of 6 pks or whatever onto the ship, then finding a place to store them in your cabin and I don't care what the kids like, drink what is available. Now that is my rant for the day.LOL

I am a Diet Coke addict. NCL is a Pepsi product vender. In the past I have brought on board my Cokes. On my upcoming cruise I am going to try to just say no.

When I pack soda in my bag I usually get to go to the naughty room. Not sure what I am going to do next cruise though. Soda cards are sooooo expensive and I don't drink that much soda. Hmmmmmm

she can bring her own soda on board and water, we did on our first cruise with no problem. We put it in a soft cooler with wheels but a luggage tag on it and they will deliver it to your cabin. Yes you can take it with you to the Dinning Room. Don't let other people bring you down, tell her to enjoy her vacation and to drink whatever she likes.

We don't bring anything on anymore.....got used to drinking what they offer on board.

You may be able to take it to the dining room, NCL may not mind you taking it to the dining room but it wont stop others staring at you and thinking you are a real cheapskate. Personally I would be embarrassed to do it. Water is far better for you than either coke or pepsi and is free.
