Carry Luggage "ON SHIP"
Sailing on a short RC Liberty of the Seas cruise and wondering if anyone every carries luggage on ship at embarkation. We have seen numerous posts regarding carrying your luggage off the ship but none for carrying it on. We only have a two bags (both carry on plane size) and were thinking it would be easy to take with us on the ship.

Actually this question gets asks very often on this forum.
As long as it's able to fit through the xray scanner which is the same size as the one when going through airport security. Otherwise it has to be checked in with the porters. You should also know that since the cabins are generally not available when initially boarding you than have to drag your luggage around with until the announcement is made that cabins are open.

Cabins are generally available after 1:00. If you arrive at the ship after that, you should be able to get in your cabin right after boarding.

The key will be the size of the luggage.

We always bring our carry-ons with us as we get on the ship. For us it's peace of mind. Each of us has our own carry-on packed with just enough including medications to get us through the cruise in case our main suitcase was lost. We started doing this after a trip a few years ago ( land based) where the airline never put one of our suitcases on the plane we were on. Luckily the airline found our wayward luggage and put it on another plane and had a delivery service bring it to us 2 days later.

You can get luggage through the scanner that is larger than the official carry on size... but it still has to fit the scanner. A problem that I have run into is the security at the pier terminal "told" me that the luggage was too large and I would have to check it. I politely told him that I had taken it through before and there was not a problem. He eventually let me through and I had no further problem. However I have read on this board that some passengers were denied access to the terminal unless they checked the luggage that was determined to be too large. YMMV

My wife and I just did this with our 11/29 LOS cruise. No trouble.

We tried it twice. First time, we didn't know better - in a US port. Second time in Europe, just to see what happens. Both times stopped at the entrance, turned back to check in.

My door key has always been the size of a credit card. I can't imagine a key the size of luggage .
