Amber Cover

Does anyone know if it is walking distance from Amber Cove into the town of Puerto Plata

Maybe if you are in really good physical shape :D

It's about 7 miles according to Google Maps

No way would I attempt that walk. We're not in bad shape, but the heat and the traffic kept our happy behinds in a nice air-conditioned taxi. :p

From the TA board :

"there is nothing of interest within walking distance of the terminal but there are regular taxi drivers outside who can take you into Puerto Plata which is definitely worth a visit. Negotiate a fee first."

How close is the beach? Do you have to take a taxi there? What shape is the beach in? pools?

We just got back from Amber Cove. They have a very very nice free pool area. You can pay $8 for a umbrella rental. Free water slides. $12 for the zip line that goes over the pool and you can do it all day long. Not many store are open yet. We loved the pool area though. No beach, but we didn't miss it. You can book an excursion to a beach through carnival.

If you do the RIU excursion, they have pools, including a swim up, and a beach for use.
