No Smoking Cruise

Are there any lines that offer smoke free cruises?

I was planning a vacation on Cunard's Queen Victoria until a friend pointed out that smoking is permitted in all cabins and on balconies, in designated areas of most bars and lounges, and in the casino.

I'm relieved that I discovered this before booking but do not want to make the same near mistake again.

None of the luxury lines are totally smoke free. For that matter, no cruise line is totally smoke free. Check on Celebrity's board, as they have the most restrictive smoking policy, but Celebrity is not a luxury line.

Carnival tried a totally non-smoking ship....didn't fly!

We've never been annoyed by smokers...there are more non-smoking areas than smoking areas...so it's fairly easy to avoid.

Even when we've had "neighbors" who smoked on their balconies, it wasn't like being in a "smokey bar"...the wind quickly whips that smoke away....

Oceania has probably the MOST restrictive no smoking policy which extends to having people who break their rules leave the ship.

We manage never to go near the two very limited smoking areas, one outside and one in a bar. We have never been bothered by smoke on any of our 8 cruises with them and we are extremely sensitive to smoke.:D

I guess I made a mistake to begin with in thinking that Cunard is a luxury line. I've since read other threads that say there are only 5.

It is hard to imagine paying upwards of 10K to live in a room that was occupied by a smoker the week before. I do not understand how any of them could get the smoke smell out of the cabins with only a few hours between old and new occupants.

While I don't think clean air should be a luxury, I'd be willing to pay more to get it.

I would give Oceania a try unless you like formal nights

It is more of a Country Club casual dress code

Enjoy what ever line you choose

RCCL does not allow smoking in the cabins. If you sail in the summer with such line be prepared for many, many children. They have an excellent kids program. I have sailed primarily HAL. It caters to an older crowd. I am early 60's and feel young among the passengers. On a none summer cruise you find few smokers. My theory is that by this age demographic most smokers are dead.

SeaDream observes a No Smoking Policy in the staterooms and all interior spaces. I think smoking is permitted outdoors on Decks 3, 4 and 6, except during meal hours.

Also, repeat violators are sometime asked to disembark.

I recently returned from a Celebrity Cruise. Smoking was not an issue. There were a couple of designated outdoor areas where occasionally there would be a few smokers. I could have easily avoided these but the breeze was brisk enough that the smoke didn't linger.

What a joy!

Your talking mass-market not even nearly luxury. The premium and luxury lines would naturally have less smoking than mass-market due to their demographics except for those lines that cater more to non-Americans who smoke more than we do.

I just found the line listed above for cruiseline smoking policy,,,really helpful...again www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfmID=225

Another 5 star one with limited smoking is Regent Seven Seas,,,booked cruise because of it....also, may cancel an existing Seabourn one due to it smoking policy......and seemed to have started a very "heated" discusion on their CC site...

Concerning SeaDream,,was on last month,,,and not bothered by the smoking areas,,,,just avoided them...but can t if on balcony and someone flicking butts, and wafting cigar smoke,,yuck...:(

Between Seabourn, Silversea and Regent, Regent has the most restrictive policy. There is no smoking in any suite or balcony. Smoking is permitted in 1/2 of one lounge, the pool bar and the room where they allow cigars. Easy to avoid smokers.

Funny, because the main reason I won't book SeaDream is because of the lack of restrictions, especially of cigar smoking, on the lovely outer decks.

The ships are too small for cigar smoking to be allowed topside. I think there may even be smoking at the dining tables outside, ugh.

problem...luckily no cigars noticed,,but even smokers DID not during dinner, even outside....no smoking in rooms,so not an issue..the big thing was lack of balcony,no windows that open, and TINY bathroom,,,,but good food and service.....but was first and last because of cabins...also noticed ship needed some upgrading,,looking a little "worn" and "old",IMO;)

I was on that ship, the "Paradise"... it was heaven. It didn't attract the party crowd other Carnival ships seemed to have, and we could breathe. Even in the casino. Even in the disco. The fittings all smelled fresh. Ahh! To be able to go freely anywhere on the ship and not to have to move away because some selfish person decided to sit beside you with his cigar was a delight. The mistake they made is that it only did 2 itineraries, round and round eastern and western Caribbean, and how many times will even dedicated health nuts like us want to do the same cruise? I'd love to see a "wandering" line like Swan Hellenic try a smoke free ship - my bet is there are enough health-conscious travellers around to support it.

Anyone who is truly allergic to smoke or becomes physically ill from it needs to reconsider cruising period. Why take the chance if you're that prone to such pain and discomfort?

One can easily avoid the two areas for those "who MUST smoke" on Oceania.

We have managed not to smell any smoke (except on a few peoples clothing) for 10 cruises!

I agree that Oceania is easy to avoid smoke on. BUT walking into Horizons I have been overcome by smoke as well. Plus we are on the luxury cruise line board and Oceania is not a luxury cruise line.

Secondly, no matter how much a cruise line limits its smoking areas if one is inflexible to any smoke whatsoever I don't understand why one would put oneself in the position of endangering one's health just to take a cruise. There is no point in coming to these boards simply to rant.
