Default Es ???

Ok
I have never done ES before. We are looking at booking a cruise in Sept. The casino rate is about $90 pp less than ES.

So we are better off booking casino correct. or do you feel there is a good chance ES rates or price protection will drop more?

In the past I found a cruise and a price I liked and booked it. Never gave it another thought. I was happy. Now reading all these post about ES you have made me rethink this.

Also its my understanding that if you cancel with ES you lose your deposit Is that correct?

If you cancel with ES, you lose 50pp and the remainder of your deposit can be used on a future cruise within two years.
If you cancel within the cancellation penalty period, even with ES, cancellation fees apply

you also can not make changes to the booking with ES.

you could upgrade--- never down grade.
Cant change names etc.

i have sailed 18 times with 2 price drops ever--
heading out on number 19 and its sailing at 300 more then what we paid

Last year (3/9/12) we booked (3- Ocean View) ES for Fantasy. By the time we were to sail (6/11) we had this happen...
We had one credit of $100
Then another of $40
We then had an upgrade that cost us $10
We had another credit of $60
and we then finished with another credit of $120.....
That will be a told credit of $310!

We booked our next cruise last week (1/18). So far no price drops.

If you can get a rate now that is $90 less than ES, I would do it and not look back. No guarantees you will get a price drop, and even if you do, it may not be that much. I know I book early saver because of the lower intro price, not necessarily because I may get a price drop.

Should I book ES and then put in for a price drop for casino rate?
Is that how it's done
Like I said my Casino rate is $100 PP less than the ES rate.

I have booked ES and gotten $150 OBC. If I had booked ES rather than casino rate for my upcoming cruise I would have $300 OBC, but I would not have my amazing Ext. aft balcony. The room is extremely imp to me, so it is a moot point I wanted the aft and got it for $40 more with casino rate ($400 more if not casino rate) than a Lido balcony, which I also enjoy. Didn't get the IC, Miami precruise b/c I tried to book it and it appeared full on many sites due to U. of Miami graduating that night. Got the Holiday Inn, Bayside instead and the I find the booked IC available on the Last _____ Travel site for my date at a great price, and I can't book it b/c my Holiday Inn rate was nonrefundable. Also same price for my new found IC rate. You can't win them all, but you can do your best. Caribbean cruise to all new ports in an amazing balcony aft will have to make this cruiser happy, and it does.

Yes, you can book ES, then price match to the casino rate ... as long as the casino rate is for the same category (not a guarantee room).

You'll still be ES, and for future price drops, you'll match to the new rate ( whatever the casino rate cost).
