Default What's the difference between each ship?

I was reading everyone's favorite ship and saw that the Splendor was rarely mentioned. Now I'm wondering what the difference between Splendor and the others are.....so what's all the differences between ships (other than obviously size)

There are different classes of ships: Fantasy (the smallest), Triumph (medium size), Conquest (basically the same as Triumph, only longer) Spirit (Narrow enough to go through the Panama Canal) Dream (Largest size), and the Splendor which is a class in itself. It was originally built for the Costa line but was put in the Carnival line instead. When the Destiny was built, she was the largest cruise ship afloat. She is being refitted and will come out as the Sunshine and will be in a class by herself.

Is that it? I just wonder if some have rollerskating instead of mini golf. Or three shows instead of one? Know what I mean? MAJOR differences. I guess I don't get why some people prefer other ships if they are all the same.

I'm new to cruising and seriously just curious

There is already a thread discussing this exact question: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1756629

Like any other sort of vacation getaway, I think it's more a matter of where you feel most comfortable. Take the Conquest class of ships for example. Even though they're all the same size and are pretty much laid out the same, there are some differences in decor and on board amenities. Out of just those five ships, what would make someone favor one over the others? Could be the decor, could be the cruise director, could be the staff, could be the overall ambience. Who knows? As for us, we've been on eight cruises so far, on eight different ships. Our last cruise was on the Liberty. We absolutely love that ship! In fact, we liked it so much (despite Carnival's cutbacks) that we decided to do a return cruise on her next May. But the reasons we like it are probably different from why some else might like it. The same could be said for the Splendor. Could it be that the Splendor has some special secret quality known only to its' devoted fans, and that those fans don't wish to share that secret? It's possible.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere, and I have a license to chill.
What happens on the ship stays on the ship, unless it gets posted on YouTube.
