Any Info on July 8th Regatta - Alaska ??

We have had several e-mails asking us to dump our cruise for various options:

1) Exchange for a much longer European cruise on Marina or Riviera with an upgrade from Ocean View to Penthouse Suite !!

2) Exchange for some Caribbean Cruise again with an upgrade.

3) Cancel cruise for full refund

and today: 4) Cancel cruise with full refund and $1300 cash back!

Are they trying to open up space for a special event??

What do you think this is about??

They have oversold the cruise and they are making better and better offers til they get people to move. Last year, they oversold balcony and above on my Alaska cruise and were making good offers to get balcony and penthouse cabins to move down to an oceanview.

If they are offering longer on a Med cruise with a penthouse, and you can get the time, I would grab it.

In 2014, they oversold our 7day Med cruise and were offering a 10 Papeete-Papeete in Jan with upgraded cabin. Several took it.

Just like airlines cruise lines do overbook.

What you and others are receiving are offers that get sweeter and sweeter and sooner or later someone/s will accept the offer and the equilibrium will be restored.

Was on a United flight two weeks ago where the offer started at $300 and slowly ended at $1500 to give up a seat for the next flight the following day. No different.

They have overbooked. I once got a full refund plus $6000 cash on regent in a similar situation.

We recently got a very attractive offer to change cruises from our upcoming SF to NY via Panama Canal.

But, with show tickets and other NY commitments, we chose to stay with the original plans.

As others have explained, this happens all the time. It is a way to accommodate the oversold cruisers so everyone ends up happy. You are at liberty to ignore the offers.

We've had move over offers on two separate cruises, accepted one but not until the ante went up considerably. They made a series offers over four or five months.

We have had several move over offers on an upcoming Sirena trip late September but we haven't bitten. The latest offer was for one of four longer cruises in a penthouse suite with cash back. I expect more offers.

We've also received offers to downgrade cabin to a lower category and accepted that once for cash back.

Sometimes people say they are absolutely not interested and then an offer comes in they cant refuse..it never hurts to see all offers..

This is so true :D

It's the reason why O is cutting back/eliminating selling "guarantees" on their high demand cruises during peak sailing season. As a relatively young cruise line they are still going through a learning curve on which cruises sell out (and stay sold out) and which one don't.

O starts selling these cruises 15-16 months out. They have an expectation that, from the opening of booking, X percent of the bookings will cancel at/by payment due date and they oversell and guarantee rooms to allow for this. On some of the popular bookings, and during high season, they are slowly learning that cancellations rates may be 0.1X and oops they have dramatically oversold. They will probably never be able to eliminate the situation, but they are slowly taking steps to remediate it. However, on some cruises O has shown the propensity of being very slow in learning. Sometimes one also wonders if there isn't a little bait and switch going on also!

We, too, have received a very generous offer from O to bail out but had to turn it down because what they offered was in early November. Horses and Llamas command our time in the Nov - Mar time frame since we live 54 degrees North & snow and cold mean the animals need attention. It caused some internal stress since they offered a 14 day PH for our 7 day oceanview. Darn! You can tell who runs this ship: "she who must be obeyed", I would have been gone and some room freed up.....oh well another time!:(

I was quite surprised of the offer they made. It was a several thousand dollar upgrade. But again, our schedule would not allow for it.

See you onboard Friday. we are Curt and Gail from Long Beach. Weather will be cool and damp, which is exactly what I want. Too hot, especially inland, in SoCal this time of year.

I think I may try to remember this in the future, book an expected sell out and hope to win the lottery!
