Ponce, Puerto Rico

I will be in Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 8am until 5pm on my upcoming cruise. Does anyone have any suggestions for this port? It's a maiden call for the cruise line I'm sailing with. Is the town nice for a stroll and lunch?

There is a nice Church a fire station and plenty of shops to browse

We were given advice on an incredible art museum in Ponce....if you go to puertoricodaytrips.com, you will see a few new articles...We ended up not making it there...we did go to The Lechoneras in Guavate/Cayey and hoped to get to the VW museum in Yauco...all near Ponce, if I remember correctly...

It was a five years back that we where there.

As I recall the taxis had a special rate to go into town, too far to walk. In town there was a tour trolly just off the main square that took you around the area for $2-3.

The art musrem is well worth a visit. Surprisingly world class. Very impressive collection.

It's been years since we were in Ponce, but we enjoyed it a lot. One hidden gem we happened upon is a music museum, featuring the specific music of Puerto Rico. As it happened, one of the women who was featured there at the time was touring the exhibit when we were there! It's not huge, but we found it interesting. That led us to bring back a specific kind of drum for our son, who is a percussionist.
