Things To Do On A Second Visit

We will be a group of 10 ranging in age from 20-73. All can get around without any issues, although I don't think some of us will be rock climbing....

Most of us will be visiting this great island for a second time. First time around, we did the usual typical "island tour" This time we want something a little different, say about 3-4 hours long, followed by beach time of about 2 hours and of course some shopping.

What would you recommend?????? We don't have an issue re-visiting some of the top things to seeand do, but would also like to do things that we did not have time for on our first visit.

Sounds like the typical island tour is still an option for you by adding a different stop or two. Most tour operators offer the shopping/beach/island tour, but it's much nicer if you hire a private driver and take a more personalized tour where YOU want to go. We hired a private driver on one of our earlier visits because we wanted a customized tour of the East End and certain other areas. We were looking at condos for sale, and taking a personalized tour gave us the flexibility to compare a couple beaches we hadn't yet seen, hit Mountain Top (the original place, don't really care about the new version), and end our day at Paradise Point. The driver dropped us at PP and we took the tram down. If docked in Havensight you can do some shopping there as you walk back to your ship.

If that isn't an option you can just taxi to Sapphire Beach (or Secret Harbor if you prefer very calm water over more waves at Sapphire, both offer good snorkeling) and taxi back to PP for lunch and a cold drink or Bailey's Bushwacker before shopping in Havensight. If docked at Crown Bay you'll probably want to shorten your tour to allow for shopping time downtown if that's important to you. You may also want to separate into groups after the beach if some want shopping and some want PP.

If you weren't including shopping time I would suggest looking at one of the many excellent daysails from Red Hook and Sapphire marinas. Or even the chanpagne sail over th St John. Those are great ways to see the islands from a different vantage point. If you don't care to snorkel you will still enjoy beautiful views of the coast and a good lunch.

In fact, I strongly suggest forgetting the shopping and going to St.John!

If you take a 4 1/2 hour Champagne Sail to St.John, you should also have time to do some shopping. :)

Good point Lulu! We enjoy shopping in Cruz Bay on Syt John than anywhere on St Thomas other than Tillett Gardens. Very nice shops and not as crowded as Charlotte Amalie.

There you go takevtr1 - we've got your day all planned! Just book the champagne tour through the ship and enjoy time cruising the shore of STJ and then either beach time or shopping and lunch time in Cruz Bay.

I agree with the Champagne Cat Sail. We are going in May for the 3rd time! Love it!!!

can anybody recommend a private operator that can take 10 people?

We were in STT a few years ago, and ended up grabbing someone off the street and did NOT ahve a good experience with him.

We had a car rented, but once we saw the traffice tc, decided not to drive on our own. This driver was hanging around in a parking lot outside of the terminal. He seemed very nice, and in fact was a nice person, but we felt hijacked as he did not do the thnigs thatwe wanted to do.
