When I bought my camera a year ago I started to shoot mainly in full manual. I messed up some pictures forgetting my settings and shooting some pictures....but I learned :o

I used raw but since I do not use any picture editor, I just stopped using it.

I too like better a non touched-up picture straight out of the camera.

This is one I did with a 30 seconds exposure.

This is the 30 seconds exposure and light painting.

Here's the great thing about photography: there's no right or wrong way to do it. You can approach any subject a dozen different ways and get a dozen different pictures that all say or do something differently. You can do a lot of post-processing and adjustment, or just a little, or none at all if you want. You can shoot for accurate colors, contrast, and exposure....or you can shoot for a stylized or artistic effect. You can set up scenes with extra lighting and composition, or do it "street style" and try to capture people as if they aren't being photographed.

A camera is like a pencil. The only limit to what you can do with it is you.

Well said.

Almost poetic.

I "like" your way of thinking! Very "picturesque!" :D

Pens are better than pencils. Pencils are old technology. If you're not using pens, you are not doing it right - if you want to be a serious writer, and not just a scribbler, use a pen.*

*for anyone sadly lacking in ability to recognize and understand sarcasm and humor, the above is a case study to use to help you learn to cope with your disability. For it is firmly tongue-in-cheek, satirizing the various battles over brand A & brand B, RAW vs JPG, and so on. Sarcasm is employed in the above, as was attempted humor. If you were considering taking it seriously in any way, take the following action: find a cold body of water, stick your head in it and shake vigorously, and see if that snapped you out of it. If it did not, then try biting your tongue forcefully. Whatever you do, don't use your computer to type out a reply which takes any of the above seriously, or you may face some mild ridicule.

Haha, what's scary is I worked with a teacher who wouldn't accept papers or essays written in pencil. It wasn't that she didn't like getting lead dust on her hands....she just lived by the axiom that pens were for writers and pencils were for mathematicians and artists and that anyone who deviated from that was both wrong and an idiot.

Some people are weird.

  • 1 month later...
You can also get tip cards / Quik cards on Amazon and the like. I have the complete set. Handy in lieu of trying to remember all the steps if you are a casual photographer

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered a set for my new camera.
