hotels in Ft. Lauderdale, pre cruise

We stayed at the Cambria in Ft. Lauderdale last April. The only complaint was that it was a new hotel and the location was not in our GPS. It was on 19th street and the GPS could only identify the 18th Street.

If you go there with their shuttle from the airport or a taxi, it's a great place to stay and the rates were very reasonable.

They sell an after cruise package to take you back to the hotel or airport at a very reasonable price. If you have a cell phone with you, you just call them as soon as you have your suit cases and they'll be there within a few minutes.

I've been booked into the Cambria Suites hotel since May for my December pre-cruise stay. I am a single gal and what appealed to me was the complimentary shuttle from the airport and to the port next day. Sign up for the shuttle when you check in. $8 breakfast if I need it. $108 AAA rate for hotel.

I have stayed at several hotels pre cruise and this time I'll try this one. It's gotten good ratings. I want to take a 3 mile cab ride to the Hard Rock casino to pass the time in the evening. My plane lands at 2.

I've also stayed at Riverside Resort on Las Olas Blvd, La Quinta, Comfort Inns, Airport Hilton, Marriott Marina on 17th Ave. It often depends on how much time I have and what I want to do after arrival when I choose a hotel. They've all been $80-$169. La Quinta was the highest because I had to book last minute. There were great food and movie options near that one.

Cabs are pretty cheap in Ft Lauderdale and many hotels have shuttles to and from airport and port. Shuttles appeal to me as a single cruiser. Couples and families might be better off taking cabs or cars.

Priceline can get you a pretty good deal if you are comfortable with that option and you don't need an upgraded room or two beds. I got Riverside Resort on Priceline and that was a great hotel too, but cabs were necessary. Not expensive rides though. Airport Hilton too. I liked that but nothing was near it.

So, figure out what matters to you, read reviews on tripadvisor or something similar, take notes and make a decision. There are many hotels that are acceptable. I've enjoyed trying them and have not made a bad decision yet. Well, maybe the first Comfort Inn many years ago....heater started smoking and set off the smoke alarm. It was kind of creepy with outside entrances too.

Anyhow, I find it fun to try new places every time I go.

What would be a nice hotel to stay the night before cruising from Ft. Lauderdale end Oct? Looking for clean or either new hotel at reasonable price. Thanks!

Try the Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Airport North. Rates in end of October are $94.00 non-Refundable and $114.00 refundable. It included airport shuttle and breakfast. Additional small charge for transport to the cruise terminal. Something like $6.00 pp. It is close to a Publix Grocery, Outback Steak House and other shopping and 1.2 miles from the Zuiderdam terminal. Nice beds, 42" LCD TV, separate sitting area and business desk. There is also an Embassy Suites within a 1/4 mile of that, but the rates are higher. From what I have read, they have received good reviews, as well.

I'll be at the Embassy Suites 17th Street. I like that they have free breakfast, a mangers reception every night, and they are near a water taxi stop. The only thing I hate is that they don't have a free shuttle. They are pricey, but I was fortunate enough to get a good rate. I initially booked Cambria, but I kept reading that there wasn't anything close by and once I realized FLL had the water taxi, I wanted to be near one of the stops. I'm not renting a car (parking, gas, and rental) was just too much in addition to my initial cost for the hotel for 2 days. But since others have stayed at Cambria and have stated something different from what I've read; I'd say book Cambria.

I am also looking for a hotel before my cruise for 2/25/12 on the Oasis. Would like a hotel where I can watch the ships come in the Port and leave. Do you know where I could find a nice hotel with a good view of the ships coming and going??
Some please answer this question.

It isn't cheap but the Hyatt Pier 66 is the best place to stay pre-cruise in FLL. Make sure you book a tower room facing the port. The rooms are first class and the balcony is huge and private. There is a water taxi stop at the Marina attached to the Hotel. The restaurant/bar at the marina over looks the waterway and is a great spot to hang out. There is a big resort style pool at this hotel also. I'll be there this December 23 just before our Princess Grand departure on the 24th. Throw down the money, you won't be sorry.
