Mariner of the Seas D1 aft cabin 1692 vs D1 8660

Different people have different reactions to the same cruise. What kinds of complaints have you read? soot on the balcony? On our voyager we had friends stay on the same deck as we were--they had soot--we didnt. Lesson learned--dont hang your white bathing suit out there to dry. And get a towel to wipe things off before you sit. Vibrations and shaking?? if the ship is moving you are gonna feel it no matter where you are.

Both your cabins stated are connecting cabins. With cabin 1692 being the bigger of both. Both cabins are located in the aft. 1692 being a little further in..

If it ws me deciding on the two cabins-- 1692 for the bigger balcony- the better view. What is the price difference? How many cruises have you taken? I ask so i can know what you are comparing.

We are leaving in 2 weeks and I think she was getting nervous about the cruise. I hope your response will calm her nerves. I am looking forward to the aft balcony cabin. Thanks for your reply. The soot and the vibrations were the 2 biggest concerns.I think you answered both of those questions. This is our 4th cruise on Royal, but our first cruise on a Voyager ship.We have had a balcony on each of our cruises but never an aft balcony cabin.

thanks again-Jim

our first cruise with Royal caribbean was on the Voyager in cabin 1690 ( next door to 1692) We loved it. The balcony was huge , table plus 2 chairs plus 2 loungers and it was a decent size cabin with large sofa. The only down side was a fair trek to the elevators midship as there aren't any at the aft.Yes we did have some soot on the balcony on sea days plus the dropping/lifting of anchors did make the room shake some.We must have enjoyed it despite these minor inconveniences because as soon as we were home we booked the same cabin on the Explorer !!

heatherb1953,

Please tell me all about cabin 1690 as we are booked for June 26, 2005. Go from opening the door out to the balcony and bathroom, storage just everything.

This will be our first on RC we've been on several other lines, but this time decided to give RC a try. The cabin we had decided on at first when we called was taken, I think it was on deck six aft and when we called it was gone so the RC guy suggested 1690. I hope we did ok.

Also as well if you don't mind tell us all about the ship and things to do, spa, show, casino, just anything good or bad, in's and out's and how the ship is to find your way around.

Thanks so very much in advance for your time and info.:)

Average size: stat.= 178; balcony= 42 sq ft.

On the link above - the first thing you see is the staterooms. If you click on there go to deck 10- scroll all the way down- click on your cabin number- it will show you your cabin lay out.

Since you have sailed on carnival you already know that Carnival has bigger cabins. But the way the cabins are laidout on the the Royal ships they make good use of space. Taking this cabin you will not be disappointed.

If you scroll down some there are pics posted of cabin on the 9th deck that will give you an idea on your balcony

MARCYJANE

I am only guessing that you are going on the Voyager.

Our first words on entering cabin 1690 were " wow !!". This was only our second cruise, our first was with Celebrity on the Mercury, and compared to the cabin we had on that ship we felt we had a suite!!We have not looked back. Royal caribbean are our preferred cruise line now and we are currently working our way through the fleet having been on 7 of the ships. We were on the Voyager for spring break 2000. Coming from England we did not know what "spring break " was, the ship was full to capacity but because she is so big we did not feel cramped in any way and always found a place on deck to lounge but with the huge balcony there was no need to worry about that. The ice shows on Voyager class ships are fantastic, do not miss it. The promenade area is a good place to people watch as there is an "english" style pub where you can sit and watch the world go by,there is live music played here as well. The theatre shows were excellent when we were on board. The dining room is grand and service was efficient and friendly. As she is a big ship everything is on a large scale so study your deck plan well.Make sure you have everything you need when you leave your cabin as it is a good walk to the elevator area from the aft cabins. Good way to burn off the calories though!! We have never had a bad cruise with RCI and have always enjoyed good service, excellent food and comfortable cabins. We hope you have wonderful trip.

HeatherB1953, we have 1690 booked on Voyager and I am thinking of switching to a JS. There is just my husband and myself, but I thought that 1690 looked so small, much smaller than the Junior Suite. Did you really find there was plenty of space in 1690? Did you happen to notice the balcony next door to you, 1692? It looks smaller than 1690 in the pictures although I know the cabins are the same. That was the reason I picked 1690, the balcony looks almost the same size as the aft JS. Any advice you have would be appreciated. I'm thinking, why waste the extra money if its not necessary, but then again...................

OVER THE EDGE

my personal choice would be the aft 1690. Some friends we made on the Voyager had JS1624. It was a lovely spacious cabin but their complaint was that because of the design of the ship the balcony felt " enclosed".The later voyager class ships changed the design to glass sided balconies which we witnessed when the Navigator was docked next to us in Cozumel.( we were on the Brilliance ) I have been checking my photo album pics. The sofa in the cabin was a full length one as I am lounging on it legs stretched out , also there is a lot of empty floor space compared to our first cruise cabin when we were side stepping each other to move around it !!! hope this helps.
