We are sailing on the Carnival Legend and will be in Maui. We dock in Kahului. We plan to rent a car and drive to Lahaina for a luau. We plan on using Dollar's shuttle to get to the airport to rent the car, but we will get back too late to get the return shuttle. Does anyone know how much cab fare back to the ship from the airport would be?

You have probably considered this already, but (using Old Lahaina Luau as an example) the luau will let out about 8:45 p.m. By the time you get to your car it should be about 9 p.m. The drive back to Kahului Airport should take 45 minutes to an hour perhaps. That puts you at the rental car company about 10 p.m. Add time for walking over to the airport terminal and getting a cab, taking the cab to the entrance to the pier and the time to walk from there to the ship. The ship departs at 11 p.m. from what we read. If Carnival requires everyone be onboard at least 30 minutes prior to departure, you will be cutting it kind of close. If we are wrong on our time estimates, someone please correct us. We aren't trying to be negative - but just want to make sure you realize the timeframe.

Silver Sweethearts do you know if there is a car rental company within walking distance of the Carnival Legend's port? That we might could bypass having to go to the airport all together?

Enterprise has a location about a block up and on the far side of the street from the pedestrian entrance to the dock at 40 Hana Highway (808)871-1511. Their hours are somewhat limited though: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is our understanding their rates are lower than their airport location, but that is only what we heard and may not be true.
