Puerto amador, panama

We're on the Sea Princess arriving at Puerto Amador on May 14 at 5:00 p.m. departing at 10:00 p.m. How easy is it to catch a taxi into Panama City. I hear the traffic is bad but don't want the ships tour and I don't want to miss the ship? Any suggestions or information?

Thanks,

Som

Puerto Amador is really nothing more than a parking lot with shops around the parking lot and a marina for small boats. Initially the parking lot will be filled with all the tour buses. But I'm sure you'll find taxis as well.

Some folks I imagine will spend the time just around the shops as you can't do much more that that without a tour or taxi. I also imagine that the first few tenders will be for tour folks only.

We are booked on the Sea Princess May 7th, 2010 Ft. Lauderdale to San Francisco full transit Panama Canal, 15 day cruise. Now I am confused. The itinerary I see shows us Wed May 12 full transit canal 5am - 430pm; then Thursday May 13 Fuerte Amador 8am - 6pm. Nothing about "a 5pm - 10pm at Puerto Amador." ? Friday May 14 says its a sea day. Thanks to anyone who can clarify this itinerary.

Those references about the arrival times at Ft. Amador are from January last year, (09) this year's schedule includes a full day call at Ft. Amador. I believe what they do here is when they clear the Canal on the 12th, they go to sea so that they may operate the casinos etc. On the 13th they arrive again at Ft. Amador so you may take tours and such. By calling at Ft. Amador in this manner they don't have to coordinate getting passengers who opt for tours off the ship during the day of transit.
