Can you carry off luggage RCCL Sydney

This is our first time cruising out of Australia.

In the USA it's quite normal to carry off your own baggage when disembarking.

I have read through the RCCL website and can't see anywhere where it mentions that you can carry off your own luggage or do you have to leave it outside your door the night before etc etc.

Thought 'why not ask the experts'.

Does anyone know?:) Thank you

On our Rhapsody cruise in March disembarking in Sydney lots of people carried off their luggage on disembarkation. However, it was SO chaotic you wouldn't believe it!! People, luggage and queues everywhere - people pushing and shouting - it was horrible. What a mess!!

We had planned to do the walk off with our own luggage but decided instead to do the luggage outside our door the night before deal. So very glad we chose this option. We were colour coded to be called first up after the "walk off" passengers were done and it was SO easy!!! Very civilised and we were off and had collected our luggage within 5 minutes flat. No issues at all. Sweet.

We debarked the Solstic at Sydney in April. Not only can you get off at 6:30 AM with luggage on debarkation day, if you have an extra port day in Sydney at the end of the cruise, you can get off the day before. A lot of Aussies did that on Sunday, the day before debarkation, to be able to get back to work on Monday.

  • 3 weeks later...

Confirming as others have done that 'self-disembarking' has been an option on each of our 4 RC cruises to/from Sydney.

We have not done this and don't know how well it works. We have always chosen to leave the luggage out the last night and take the latest possible departure - WE DON'T WANT OUR HOLIDAY TO END :)

We live in Sydney and book our shuttle pick-up for 9:30

Our group of 12 each chose to carry our own luggage off when we disembarked in Sydney on our RCCL cruise in March. The only issue we had was that our flights weren't until midday so didn't really want to disembark first which is the requirement when taking your own luggage. We asked guest relations if we could walk off with our bags about 8.30 instead and they said that was fine. Needless to say it was a very smooth process and we didn't notice any chaos at all. We were in taxis within 10 minutes of leaving the ship. Maybe we were just lucky?

We have chosen to self disembark both RCCL cruises this year & last year.

It was easy & no hassle, we didn't leave early either, just had our breakfast & got off between 8am & 9am, no lines, no waiting, no risk of someone grabbing the wrong bags on the dock (it happens).

I don't like the idea of my bag sitting out in a public corridor for possibly hours unattended, when everyone knows nobody will be looking for it until the next day.

Plus we handle our luggage with a lot more care than any porter will.:)
