From Greenock to Glengoyne Distillery

Does anyone know how to get from Greenock to the Glengoyne Distillery by public transportation? We'd rather not go into Glasgow first--that seems pretty convoluted.

Is it reasonable to rent a car in Greenock? Google maps says it's about 50 minutes to the distillery.

We really want to do a scotch tasting, so we're considering either the Glengoyne distillery or the Highland Park distillery in the Orkney Islands. (Although we're open to other options)

Thanks!

I emailed the distillery and got a very nice reply--there isn't a public transportation option that doesn't include Glasgow--and that's a 2.5 trip, although it could probably be mitigated by using layover time to wander around in Glasgow.

We're going to visit the Highland Park distillery in Kirkwall instead.

Our trip is in May and I haven't lined it up yet. I'm a bit behind on my planning. I'll keep you posted

I did schedule a Bushmills VIP experience from Belfast which includes a tasting, lunch, and a visit to Giant's Causeway.
