Anything outside of the airport is not regulated, but one need remember gas is over $6 a gallon.

I am not one to haggle so I prefer to deal with people who have a set rate. The tour companies do this. Course when I fly in, I walk from the airport to Coxen Hole then take the min bus to West End for just over one US dollar. Set rate on the mini bus. :0)
I could see using the bus, but not with our luggage and dive gear. We travel a lot and do like to use public transportation (metro in Athens, Tram in Istanbul etc etc) just not schlepping luggage

I guess I just want people to know that sometimes taxis will try to take advantage of them...... not sure why some say that the price is PER PERSON....... have seen posts of $20.00 or more per person to West Bay etc..... just want them to know that they can negotiate and what the @ price should be.......

My guess would be the per person charge is when the driver waits for you. As a cruise ship member wanting to get back to the ship on time, one is far better off with the per person fee. Most of the taxi guys in West Bay are waiting for someone there are not alot just hanging about looking for fares.

The $25 from the airport as you say is one direction.. no waiting.

Indeed the taxi guys will get as much as they can but as I said one should balance their needs with the cost of gas.

True, and I did the "wait" thing when we were there on our cruise. We pd 15.00 per person for pretty much the whole day.

I also know that we paid $60.00 for a round trip from Infinity Bay to the Black Pearl golf course just 2 weeks ago while staying at IB. That was for 2 people. Now, that is a L-O-N-G way and it works out to $30 one way for 2 or 15.00 one way for 1. I think, perhaps, for those on a cruise the rates are a bit more than for those staying on the island. Not sure why - but it is what it is.

We plan to rent a car while there at Christmas - at least for a 2-3 days so we can get around now that we are more familiar with the lay of the land. We will have son, DIL and daughter with us and want to show them some of the island that we saw ....... we fell really hard for Roatan !

How were the currents? Was it difficult to swim in one direction because of the current or was it completely calm?
