QE2 buffs

My folks were on a QE2 crossing back in ’86 or ’87 (?) when it lost power and drifted for a couple of days. My dad said he was taking a nap in the cabin and when he woke up, it was pitch black! He found his way up to the deck, where everyone was wearing those fluorescent necklaces. He just had to listen awhile and didn’t take long to find my mom (she’s a talker!). The backup generator eventually came on, they opened the bars (free drinks!) and served cold food. They said it was one big party and had a grand time! icon_smile.gif

Anyone familiar with this voyage?

In Liners to the Sun, John Maxtone-Graham describes an episode in which QE2 lost power and was assisted by Sea Venture (which eventually became Pacific Princess). I believe that passengers were transferred from one ship to the other. But as this book was published in 1985, the incident I'm recalling would have been before the dates you posted, so we may be talking about two different voyages.

The trip Lisa was mentioning was in 1974...April. We were on Sea venture the trip before and QE2 followed us into NYC on our return. I think I remember NYC was cold and snowy !!!

My Uncle was epending the winter in Bermuda so he gave me the papers from there which I have ... someplace.
