RCCL Fan Solo on Carnival Sunshine

OMG you are totally like a god movie - I laughed (epic family picture), I cried (you are so sweet!!), I got urged (don't remember at what though). Can't wait to read the rest! And to set sail in December!

Hey, Where have you guys been? I've been worried about you! :D:D

Thanks to the poster who thought I might be on another cruise, from your mouth to God's ear!

So, where was I? Oh yes, Wednesday was Nassau day. We weren't scheduled to arrive until the afternoon, so, I slept late and then stumbled around looking for breakfast. This is what I found, a breakfast burrito from the Blue Iguana.

Make sure to ask for the jalapeno tortilla. Sweet Heaven on a plate! Or on a piece of paper, really. Once I discovered these, I never ate anything else for breakfast.

I even tried to duplicate them at home, which became a miserable failure, but, still tasted good.

After eating, I headed up to the Serenity area to see what all the fuss was about. Here is the view from up there.

Nah, this doesn't look peaceful at all.

Imagine my delight when I found an empty clam shell.

I didn't want to get in it, but, I knew I had to for the review.

Oh, the sacrifices I make for you people!

I have read where people say there is no breeze up here because of the walls you can see in the above picture. LIES!

I took this picture because of how long this man's dreads were, they were past his butt.

But, you can see the woman's hair is BLOWING wildly in the wind.

And, this woman, who is wearing a dress made out of the exact same fabric that I have a dress out of, had to hold onto it to keep it from flying up.

And, the man in the orange shirt had to practically smother his girlfriend to keep her from blowing away.

At last, land ahoy! I could see ships and immediately took a picture of them.

Arrrgh, stupid wall, I am too short, let me find a good looking,

tall man to take a picture for me.

There they are, the Carnival Fascination, Norwegian Sky and Enchantment of the Seas, our neighbors for the day.

The EOS was doing a lifeboat drill.

Or, maybe they were sinking, I don't know. {shrug}

Hello, Fat Tuesday, I'll see you soon.

Now, let me say, our ride all morning had been peaceful and quiet. But, as we spun around to back into port, they started playing Hot, hot, hot as LOUD as they could. I think Carnival enjoys their reputation as the Bad Boys of Cruising, we certainly woke up our neighbors.

So, since my feet were on fire, my only plan was to hit the Fat Tuesday, To do this, you have to walk all the way around the BCH. Finally, I arrived.

It is open air with a nice sea breeze.

This was my forward view as I enjoyed my (discounted) frozen drink.

On my way back to the ship, I ran into some kind of ceremony next to the straw market.

There were assorted officials around, I guess the Royal Bahamas Defence Force?

Looks kind of painful, especially on the concrete. Maybe that's just MY sore knees talking.

Comparing notes after the show.

I was so worn out by the heat and my walk, (or was it my frozen drinks) that I headed to my cabin for a nice nap.

When I woke up, I realized I missed lunch, so, I decided to try the MDR for an early dinner. They gave me a table in the corner against the wall, which was perfect, since I didn't want to draw attention to my solo dining.

I had the escargots, which I love, but, haven't had in years. (Another RCCL shortage)

To tell the truth, they weren't very good. I'm used to them being in a garlicky sauce and this was more like an oily, greasy pizza. I ate every bit though.

My main course was the Chateaubriand, it was very good.

For dessert, there was only one option. Of course, I would have the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake! I had learned from Ga Pearl to ask for it with two scoops of ice cream so I would get the Mickey Mouse look.

Blasphemy! They put the two scoops in one dish, so the ears weren't right, but, all was forgiven once I started eating it. Sweet Holy Moses, I need that every day at every meal!

The entertainment that night was the Hasbro Game Show. There didn't seem to be much point to it, I like games, but, this wasn't much of one. It was nice to see the kids get involved though.

After that, I headed to my cabin for a glass of wine and then on to the Red vs Blue Deck Party. That was great fun, lots of line dances. It was here that I ran into my FB friend and realized it was her family I had taken the picture with. What a small world. On a side note, they had another family reunion this weekend, at the Kalahari Resort in Ohio. When I learned about it, I contemplated going just to see how they would react.

When I returned to my cabin, this was waiting for me.

A frog with buck teeth? A frog with a booger in his nose and buck teeth?

I awoke the next morning to a towel animal takeover.

They were adorable. I loved the family of snails.

The monkeys were just hanging around.

And, of course, the chair hogs.

We were in Freeport for the day, so I headed to breakfast.

My only plan for the day was to hit Fat Tuesday, so, I wandered around the port a little.

Some bar prices, if anyone is interested.

I'm trying not to pass out from the heat and this fool is wearing a wool hat.

A band was playing in the gazebo.

Finally, I arrived at my destination. The staff was busy making balloon animals.

Or, should I say, busy popping balloon animals.

I have my receipt from that day. It shows that I bought my first (discounted) drink at 10AM. Hey, it's 10AM somewhere, isn't that what people say?

The man in the white shirt made me a flower.

He said that means we are engaged now. :D

After a few drinks, I headed back to the ship for lunch. I gave my flower to a little girl. Does that mean WE are engaged now?

There was a Carnival ship being worked on while we were there.

For lunch, I headed to Cucina Capitano.

I'm not sure why I waited until the last lunch to try this place. I love pasta and they had the pasta bar where you fill in what kind of pasta, what sauce and any add-ins.

I had Penne Alfredo with Chicken and it was fabulous!

The decor was kind of cool.

I also tried the lasagna, but, I didn't care for it.

It seemed like old world lasagna, where you throw all the leftovers in and make a dinner out of them. The meat was like pot roast. I should have gotten another dose of the penne.

I decided to cleanse my palate down at the Red Frog Pub.

Here are some of their prices.

There was a man playing the guitar and singing. He was too loud and he bothered me. I would be off the ship in less than 24 hours and I just wanted to relax, so, I moved out into the Alchemy Bar area.

That was much more peaceful. I went to the internet cafe to print my boarding pass and then to my cabin to pack and fill out my custom form. As you can tell, I did not spend a lot on this cruise, the most expensive things were the photos, they cost me $22 each.

I decided to try the MDR again. This time they put me at a table right in the middle, so, everyone who came in after me had to walk past my table. It was a little disconcerting, but, I just sat up a little straighter, put my nose up in the air and tried to act aloof.

I started with the shrimp cocktail.

To keep the theme going, I had the Bacon Macaroni and Cheese again, as an entree this time.

This guy came around, carrying a bottle of something, frozen in a block of ice. Does anybody know what it was? I thought he looked like Pharrell.

For dessert, I couldn't decide between the fruit plate and the cheese plate, so, I didn't get anything.

LIES, PURE LIES!!

You know what I got!

They still didn't give me the Mickey ears, though. The cake was simply fabulous, again.

The show that night was a rock show and i didn't like it as much as the others. I think I hit the Comedy Club again that night. They flew a new comic in to replace Mutzi, who we lost in Key West. At breakfast the next morning, I didn't expect to find the Blue Iguana open, but, it was, so, I got one last burrito.

When I got off the ship, I called Cortrans and they rolled in about ten minutes later. I was worried about making my 12:30 flight, but, I got to the airport in plenty of time. I was through security and buying a bottle of water at 10:00AM.

So, in summary, would I cruise Carnival again? Without hesitation! I need to cruise when I can find a bargain and I had a wonderful time. In that vein, I have already booked my birthday cruise for this year. Another line was offering some really sweet deals and I jumped on one while it was available.

What line is it? Here's a hint.

Pick a cargo container and settle in, it's gonna be fun! I'm on the MSC Divina at the end of September. Watch for my next review! :cool:

Hey Maureen, enjoyed your review! I need to look into that MSC cruise. Would love to cruise with you again. I had a blast on the Allure.

I'm supposed to cruise Christmas week but I'm not feeling sharing a cabin! LOL!!:D I've been scoping the Allure trying to see if I can find another heck of a deal like last year's cruise. LOL!! My next choice is the Carnival Breeze or Freedom on the Grand Turk; La Romana, Dominican Republic; Curacao; Aruba. All new ports for me if I go with that one in Sept or Oct.

While enjoying the party, a woman came up to me and asked me to be in their family picture because I was wearing the same color they were. She said, It will be so funny! Well, it did come out kind of funny, so, of course, I had to buy it.

 

 

 

 

That's the troublemaker behind me. The funny thing was, I didn't know it at the time, but, the second woman from the left was someone I had been talking to on Facebook and had actually friended. After the cruise, I sent her this picture and she loved it.

Oh my gosh- you have to love a good sense of humor from all these lovely ladies! I can only imagine them showing this picture to the rest of their family and friends. "Who the ---- is that?!?!"

This is one of the funniest reviews I've ever read. The only bad part about it is that you only have two more on here (well, only two more listed in your signature) and eventually I won't have any more to read!

Hey Maureen and Cynthia, I am glad to see you are both still enjoying cruising. I would also like to find a deal like we had last year on the Allure. That was a great cruise.

I am trying Holland America in Nov. and then 2 RC cruises next year but am always looking for a great deal. If you find any please post them.

What a great review! You kept us in suspense but it was well worth the wait.

I’m going on this cruise in two weeks and your review accomplished two things. It was very informative and I have a better idea of what to expect. Also, boy does it get me psyched about my upcoming cruise!

Maureen, I do have a question for you. This will be my first time sailing Carnival just as it was yours. I have sailed Royal Caribbean almost exclusively. As someone who has sailed Royal Caribbean before, how do you think the two lines compare? Did you notice a big difference in any particular area?
