Transportation from Rio port to Rio airport

Agree 100%.

BUT, cruise ships throw passengers off before 9:00 am , flights to North America leave after 10:00 PM. Airport services don't open until after 5pm. So now what are you going to do?

Store luggage at the in-town Santos Dumont airport (look for Guarda Volumes sign) and see some sights. There is an comfortable airport-to-airport bus, with luggage compartment, that runs regularly or take a taxi. Probably about the same or a bit more than from the cruise pier, as they are not too far from each other.

Plenty of time to go up to the Cristo and/or Sugarloaf if it's a nice day. And to have lunch up there or at the beach, and maybe even take a stroll along the beach walk. or the shopping street in Copacabana or Ipanema.

Any one half a half day tour from ship to airport and want to share?

Just realize that a tour, shared or not (Usually the guides charge by # of people), is going to be a LOT more than just taking a (safe) yellow taxi from sight to sight.

DUH! Of course!

DUH yourself ! Some cities have expensive taxis.

The must-sees for most tourists, those you can see in a half day from the cruise port, aren't going to be off the main tourist path where lots of taxis are waiting for passengers, are mostly visual (not full of historic details to enrich the experience), and therefore the values of an expensive private tour guide may be negligible, unless of course you are looking for a bodyguard of sorts or particularly want the convenience of being driven around.

The difference is probably U$250+/day/1 couple vs. probably U$25/R$100. For most, that's a big DUH.
