Thomsons credit card

Recommended Posts

This is new, as far as I can tell.

No % surcharge if you book a Thomsons or First Choice holiday and use this card.

Might be worth having simply for this purpose ?

Anybody got one already ?

Can't see the point myself WCM, always use a debit card.

Useful(ish) if you want to extend that painful "bottom line" payment due date - pay the deposit only with it, likewise the final balance when due.

OK you are just delaying the inevitable, but the funds are better in your bank account accruing interest than in Thomsons.

Like good comedy - it's all in the timing :)

I wonder if Thomsons will allow cruise onboard accounts to be settled with it @ 0% credit card surcharge fee ?

We always pay by debit card but now we can earn points and pay off card monthly - wonder if they'll take it off hubby when they don't earn interest from him after the first 3 months - hope not

Unless a condition of use I suspect that is unlikely.

Over the years I've had a few semi dormant credit cards and never been obliged to close the accounts.

Anyway - Thomsons have confirmed that customers can use this new card onboard to settle stateroom accounts without a credit card surcharge fee.

Apparently the fee is now 1.5% - whereas I thought it was 2.5% ?

Has there been a change recently ?

It seems the 1.5% is now a universal credit card surcharge across all Thomsons holidays and cruises etc. - and there is no mention of maximum limit, which was £95.00 I believe ?

Hi - apologies, we may be talking at cross purposes here ?

This is from the new credit card FAQs

When does the 0% interest on purchases end?

The 0% interest period on purchases ends 3 calendar months from the date of account opening. At the end of the offer period, the remaining balance will be moved to your standard purchase rate and will start accruing interest at the standard purchase rate. Please be aware that the 0% rate only applies to purchases and if you use your card to make cash transactions interest at the cash rate will be charged on these transactions

I misunderstood what you were meaning.

Update.

Contrary to earlier advice Thomson s have now confirmed that a credit card fee will apply in respect of settling onboard accounts if using their new plastic on their ships.

The same goes for goods purchased with it onboard their aircraft.

In other words, only good for fee free holiday/cruise bookings in a Thomsons shop, or online. :(

They don't accept their own prepaid travel money card either!

Sounds just as crazy !!!

Could it be because the card is in Euros (?) - and onboard accounts are charged in Sterling ?

Either I've lost the plot (no comments please) or Thomsons are "at it" since I posted on 1st Dec. at 03:39pm.

The credit card fee has just gone up to 2% from 1.5% - and the £95.00 maximum charge has reappeared within that period.

Do they make it up as they go along ?
