Cocktails??

Not really a cruise question but linked!

I'm thinking of having the drinks package on my next cruise (RCI Anthem of the Seas) but usually drink wine with my meals, on the basis that I would have to pay extra for anything but the basic house wine due to the way the package works I thought I'd ask the question and get seasoned cruisers and cocktail drinkers views.

What cocktails do you think go well with food and would work as an alternative to wine??

My initial thoughts -

Not frozen, lava flow types?

Not very sweet?

G&T, Vodka Martini would work - any other suggestions?

The drink packages have just been changed and the only package that includes wine now covers wine up to $12 per glass.

Take a look at this example wine list and see if you still think the same way:

Thanks clarea I hadn't realised it was now $12 for wine per glass was $8 dollars which meant choice was restricted. Agree there are some better options included with a decent discount off full bottles if I decide to treat myself.

When we got HAL's drink package on one of our cruises, it was covered.

The wide variety of beer styles has sparked interest in beer & food pairing, much like with wine. Much would depend on what the cruiseline carries, but I have often found that beer will work better than wine with some dishes.

I drink wine at home , but on the ship...NEVER! It's WAAAY overpriced....bad selections, too, IMO! A $10 dollar bottle at home will cost about $40 on the ship!

Not really "with dinner" but we have a pre-dinner tradition of having a Bourbon Manhattan and then beer with the meal. But for non-wine or beer I would think a good "with food" option might be a gin & tonic or maybe a Tom Collins.
