Mercruiser Posted April 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) I am reading on one website that the Aranui 5 will be launched in June of 2015. It will replace the Aranui 3 on the 14 night Tahiti - Marquesas mixed cargo/passenger service. According to one source, "Aranui 5 will carry 296 passengers, of whom 228 will be cruise passengers. Many of the cabins will have balconies and there will be 62 deluxe cabins on Aranui 5 as compared to just 24 on the Aranui 3." Here is a artist rendering of the ship in the Papeete harbor. There is very little info about the Aranui 5 on the web. Please add in new information as it becomes available. For anyone who is interested in the Aranui 3 cruises, see CC forum Freighter and Other Non-Traditional Cruise Travel Edited April 4, 2014 by Mercruiser
Floridiana Posted April 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2014 We did an Aranui 2 and 10 years later an Aranui 3 cruise. These were 2 of our best travel experiences.

Mercruiser Posted April 5, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) Here is very complete trip report for the Aranui 3: http://www.travelsnippetsandmore.com It's also posted on CC but the blog version has lots more pictures. The blog version should be read from bottom (oldest) to top (newest). Mercruiser Posted April 8, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted April 8, 2014 I have attached the 2015 Aranui schedule. This came in the mail today. It's not on their web site so I thought I would post it. Aranui 2015 Schedule
Floridiana Posted April 9, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2014 Thanks Mercruiser for posting both. The blog is interesting, obviously written by someone who is used to cruiseships not to a freighter which also transports mostly self-sufficient passengers. Does your brochure give more than 7 trips of the 2015 schedule? The description of the cabins and the prices sound like the Aranui 3 is still in service. Mercruiser Posted April 9, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted April 9, 2014 The official Aranui web site is silent on the topic of the Aranui 5, as is the brochure and 2015 itinerary I received from them in the mail. A Canadian web site that specializes in Aranui cruises says the following about the 2015 schedule: "** June to Dec 2015 dates are estimates and yet to be finalized due to the anticipated launch of the Aranui 5"

Mercruiser Posted April 10, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted April 10, 2014 I'm sure I would enjoy a cruise on the Aranui 3 or Aranui 5. It hasn't reached the top of my bucket list yet. The price per day is high enough that I would have to think long and hard about it. I get tons of frequent flyer miles and hotel points from business travel. I can basically stay in Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora for free at Hilton and Intercontinental properties. So a cruise costs a lot more than "free". Still, I love being on a ship. Floridiana Posted April 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) The price includes water, table wine, gratuities, all excursions and all food ashore. Don't wait until you are so old that a 20 minute walk is too strenuous and you are afraid to get your feet wet boarding a whale boat. It's also a good idea to add a pre- and after cruise stay on Moorea and Bora-Bora if you have the time. If you don't do the Aranui, just visit the Society Islands. :) Edited April 10, 2014 by Floridiana

Mercruiser Posted August 8, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted August 8, 2014 Brochures for the Aranui 5 are starting to appear on some of the specialist cruise TA sites. Floridiana Posted October 27, 2014 #17 Share Posted October 27, 2014 Do you know on which of the islands they hold the festival? I couldn't google the answer.
Mercruiser Posted October 28, 2014 Author #18 Share Posted October 28, 2014 I'm seeing on another web site that the Aranui 5's inaugural sailing will be delayed at least one voyage, commencing October 10, 2015. There is the possibility of additional delays, so passengers wanting to be on the new ship are advised to book the 11/21/2015 sailing or later. baz48 Posted November 29, 2015 #21 Share Posted November 29, 2015 Does anyone know about the smoking policy on this cruise? With so many French passengers, I'm worried that it may be smoke everywhere. Or perhaps they have designated areas? How about in the cabins or on the balconies? Floridiana Posted November 30, 2015 #24 Share Posted November 30, 2015 There was a designated smoking area on the deck of the Aranui 3. I assume it is the same on the Aranui 5.
