Effective April 1, 2016 the ACP (Panama Canal Authority) will have a new toll system. In brief passenger, dry bulk, LPG and LNG will no longer be using the PC/UMS (Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System) to calculate their tolls. General cargo and smaller passenger ships will still use the PC/UMS for toll calculation. Container ships will continue to have the toll calculated on the basis of per container. Container ships will also have a "frequent floater" program of sorts which will give them premium prices per container once a certain container volume is reached.
