Nassau, Bahamas: Favorite NON Tourist places -- Or interesting or good places where Locals might also go?

I'll be in Nassau, Bahamas on Friday 4/15/05 from 1:00am to 7:00pm.

(Have been here once before, and we did some of the sightseeing stuff such as Atlantis.)

I'm now on a hunt for:

1. NON Tourist spots -- where Locals might go and yet be also interesting or good to visit for us.

2. Maybe Tourist Spots -- but where a Local feels comfortable enough to be a tourist, too!

Do you have any favorite non-touristy spots you like to go here -- or maybe a spot you like to go where you don't "just" feel like a a tourist?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

There are two places that come to mind within a reasonable distance. The first is arawak Cay's Fish Fry - you can grab lunch at one of the dozen or so local restaurants that make up this "" Heritage village".

Here's a menu for one of the spots to give you some idea.

Additionally, the fish shacks at Potters Cay, under the bridge on the Nassau side, are a wonderful way to hang out with the locals and get the catch of the day and a cold Kalik. Maybe even sit in on a good game of dominoes. From port, just ask the cabbie to take you to Potters Cay.

For just hanging out for a drink, I like the Green Parrot at Hurricane Hole marina (Paradise Island). It's the "boating"crowd, but much easier to relax with then the mulitudes of tourist elsewhere.

Here's a nice site that might give you some clues.

Hi Scubagirrl,

Thanks for the great tips!

There was an old mention of the Fish Fry in chowhound*, much appreciated for the updated endorsement... It's something I definitely want to go to now!

I also would like to check out the fish shacks in Potter's Cay; sounds like my idea of fun too!

Regards and thanks again,
