Usually $2/bag or so...
When my gf and I cruise, we usually travel with 4 bags (that we check in) and usually hand the guy a $10 bill; and quite frankly, most times they don't even look... maybe they're too busy looking at us ... just teasing...

We always hand the guy a $5 bill, and usually are checking 2 bags.

$10 and a warning that if they loose the wifes shoes, she WILL come and kill them. That usually ensures prompt delivery of bags to our cabin.

Tipping big doesn't mean a thing as far as prompt delivery

Obviously having a sense of humour doesn't count for much either.

I over tip. We usually have 6 bags, 4 of them pretty heavy. I've tipped up to $40. I know.... I know.... too much. But you can't believe the reaction of the Porter. Last cruise he gave me his cell number. I called as we were leaving the ship. He met us at the bottom of the escalator, took our carryoffs, gathered our 6 bags, led us through customs all the way to the car and loaded the car for me. I didn't have to lift a thing. I had shoulder surgery last year so I need to be careful anyway. In the grand scheme of the cost of the trip, it was worth it for me. From the time we left the cabin until the time we left the port was 45 minutes. You get what you pay for.

There are big signs up at the ports I've sailed from saying porters are salaried and don't need tipping, so if this is the case $0 is appropriate.

The first thing they do is look at the tip,,,we found out it doesn't how much you give them (we do overtip I think) you still don't get your luggage early,,yes,,I know alot of luggage,,especially on the Oasis, (which we recently on),,luggage came up around 4:30PM,,so we missed some of the sailaway..Oh well,,,maybe next time

What we've learned over the years, sailing both RC and X, is that your luggage gets there when it gets there, and it doesn't get there any sooner, even if:
-- you overtip the porters at the curb;
-- you are sailing in a Jr. Suite or full Suite;
-- you are D or D+ in the loyalty program;
Sometimes asking your room steward helps. We've actually had to have them go search for our bags, when everyone else on the floor had received theirs, but us. And no, they weren't in the "naughty room" -- just mis-delivered to another deck.

We usually tip $5 for our two bags when embarking. When we get off the ship we usually get a poorter to take us through customs and into a cab. Then we tip $10.

Default Luggage delivery to cabin

Last cruise we took, we had one bag (of 4) delivered early. Saw the girl who was doing the delivering, thanked her and handed her a nice tip, saying if she saw our other bags (easily identifiable as only ours ) we would certainly appreciate speedly delivery. Don't you know, within 15 minutes all of our bags were delivered AND placed in our cabin. We'd never done that before, but am now really wondering if it works or if it was just circumstances?? Either way I'm pretty sure we were all happy!

3 bags and we give $5. I will also give the crew member $5 if they knock on the door and bring the bags into the room. ALthough the last few cruises the bags were already in the hallway when the rooms were opened up, or they never knocked when the delivered them outside the room.
