B2B Sun to Alaska

Have been looking at a B2B itinerary on the Sun to Alaska and have a couple of questions I am hoping someone with relevant experience can answer.

If I book a B2B in Alaska (Vancouver to Vancouver) can I keep the same cabin if it is available at time of booking? Reason I ask is I saw a statement on the NCL website that the cabins might not be available for both cruises. Shouldn't NCL be able to confirm that when booking is made?

Secondly, when we reach Seward at the end of the first leg (Seward is the 2015 ending port) can I depart the ship and go on an excursion? Or, is there a procedure I need to go through before going on an excursion? On other lines, we would just leave the ship and go through customs/immigration when we got back on the ship later in the day after our excursion.

Many thanks to anyone that can help me out with answers to my Alaska/NCL cruise questions.

Can only comment that you won't have to go through Customs/Immigration in Seward. Your last port before there and first port upon leaving are in the U.S. You will go through US Border Control upon boarding in Vancouver and Canadian upon disembarking on your return to Vancouver.

Last summer when we were on the Sun and disembarking in Whittier, there was a couple who was doing the b2b. They said they were headed out for the morning and afternoon and come back later. They had booked some kind of excursion. So I think you will be fine to get off and go see Seward.

Have a wonderful trip. We loved the Sun and our Alaska Vacation on her last summer. We are headed back in 2015 but this time on the Jewel and a 10 day

Thank you. It has been many years since we have sailed with NCL. We won't be getting a balcony cabin for this cruise due to NCL allowing smoking on their balconies --- I get terribly congested from smoke. We realize that Celebrity would be a better fit for us as far as non smoking balconies but wanted to try the Sun's itinerary in 2015

Can you tell me where some good viewing spots are on deck --- I would appreciate any input you can provide.

Timely thread as I am cruising to Alaska B2B this June via Sun. Yes, I have the same stateroom and even the ultimate dining package sells at 14 day rate at $199 instead of 2 separate $119's.

My booking also says 14 day, so I assume they are treating this as a single booking instead of 2 B2B bookings.

The only difference of my IT for 2014 compared to yours for 2015 is we are stopping at Whittier instead of Seward.

I think you have to come out of the ship as they turn it over for the next set of passengers sailing southbound.

So for my case, I have to book a shore excursion in Whittier on either of the 2 companies offering Prince William Sound cruises during this time.

I think for your case, it might be an excursion that revolves around the Kenai Fjords...

Btw, Sun seems to be a good ship, NCL doesn't get many awards in cruise critic but somehow Sun is consistently in the running in the medium ships category.

Thanks for your post. We are still considering a B2B on the Sun for 2015. But, until our minds are firmly made up, we will be taking the Millennium northbound and the Sun southbound which will give us a few days of land touring between ships.

Whittier is a great place for the glacier cruises and in Seward, we love the Kenai Fjords tours. We definitely have lots to think about --- thank goodness we have time on our side.

I cruise the Sun in a corner aft ph. It is not smoky. Any balconies or mini suites available? They are great.

Balconies/mini suites are available, but we won't risk it. We have been cruising many years and really do love the balcony cabins for Alaska. However, we have also had some really bad luck with smokers and balconies so we won't chance it on NCL. So for this cruise, we will be doing an inside cabin -- we are fine with our decision.

We will be sailing northbound after you return. :). Already our group of friends from Northern VA booked 29 cabins on Deck 10.

Wow! What a great way to enjoy Alaska with all your friends on board. Alaska is a beautiful state --- we absolutely love cruising to it. Happy planning!

One of the reasons several of our friends booked inside cabins is so their husbands don't smoke in the balcony and ruin their cabin :-)

What I meant was aft balc and ms. We had 2 guys next to us in a balcony. Prob 9278? Never smelled smoke. It rolls right out to sea. Great for viewing. We had same aft for viewing Chilean fjords.

Can understand yr decision though. The Sun's forwRd observation lounge is wonderful for viewing. It is huge.

Hope you love the Sunny Sun. My fave.

Might be better if Sun Northbound and Millennium Southbound so that you won't miss Glacier Bay

You will love the Sun. On Glacier Bay day, the National Park Service will board the ship just as you enter. It should be around 6:30. Around 7 they will start their talk in the Observation Lounge. Great place to view the Glacier and stay warm. As people spotted bears, seals, mountain goats etc they would holler out and everyone would help the next person find it.

If you are a casino person, it seems to be rather quiet, or did on our cruise and even though smoking is allowed in there (and my husband is one of those), it was not bad because no one was there. You have to walk through it to get to the shops. Im not a gambler but I did find the bartender there to be the best so would stop in and get my drink to go.

Have a wonderful

On the first page you will see us leaving Vancouver and you can see a part of the deck that is outside the Observation lounge. This was a great place to be during sail away. You could see everything

We have been to Glacier Bay before. For the 2015 B2B cruises, we chose the Sun southbound itinerary because it goes to Icy Strait Point. The Millennium northbound also goes to Icy Strait Point --- we love whale watching in Icy Strait so that is why our itineraries are aligned like they are.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
