Carry on wine question

What if you put a couple bottles in your checked bags and then carry on the 750ml bottle that is allowed, would they have anyway of knowing

Technically, the rule says the wine can be "only in their carry on luggage". In theory if they saw wine in your checked luggage, they could confiscate it, even if it was 2 bottles you are allowed.

When we boarded last January there was a big sign going into the terminal that said "all wine must be in your carryon". A few years ago we boarded in San Diego and I carried on six bottles (everybody's allowance) in a cardboard grocery store carrier and nobody said anything.

its against the rules, they can find out since they do xray bags and it will be taken away if found
