Has anyone on this Board used a scooter on the streets of Havana?

If so, what was your experience?

I've used a scooter in Europe and managed it quite well on cobblestones etc but somertimes it was difficult loading it on taxis and almost impossible on buses.

(Yes - I also posted this in the handicap travel section)

Thanks

You'd be very limited in the area you could get around in the Havana Vieja neighborhood (the historic district near the cruise pier). It's not the cobblestones so much as the lack of upkeep of them, the construction debris in the street, and the amount of traffic. A couple of blocks are a bit better fixed up for tourists. However, outside of that small area, even walking, one has to constantly step out of the way of bici-taxis, cars, horse carts, coco-taxis, crowds of people, etc. The sidewalks are barely wide enough for one person, and not wide enough for a scooter IMO.

I don't know how amenable taxis would be to picking up a passenger in a scooter. Buses are for locals and young back packers. Many restaurants are not handicapped accessible, and if you left your scooter outside, it might not be there when you got finished with your meal.

Also be aware of the severe heat and humidity at many times of year, and the exhausting tropical sun.
