Shopping for hotel in Vancouver before/after HAL Alaska

Hi, all! First post here. Appreciate this great resource. Already booked HAL Alaska for June. Now shopping for hotel and airfare.

Regarding hotel, Sam's Club Travel has a great price for a hotel in Vancouver, but I'm wary because haven't booked through anything other than directly w/ hotel. I've read horror stories of third-party reservations being denied upon arrival because of claim that couldn't complete transaction of credit card. Yay or nay re using Sam's Travel?

Thank you.

Thanks so much. Those threads are just what I needed. Info from locals and travelers that really know the area. Have to do lots of research because family trip includes father in wheelchair and mildly autistic adult son.

We've stayed at 5 different properties while in Vancouver: Delta Suites, Sheraton Wall Center, Sutton Place, Fairmont Waterfront, and Pan Pacific. Each has its plus and minus, but for us, and if we return, we'll once again stay at the Pan Pacific. First, convenience to the ship, second location - HoHo trolley stops outside the hotel, easy access to Gas Town, nearby restaurants and above all, hotel staff. If you do decide on the Pan, be sure to book a harbor view - it may be a bit more$$, but worth it - loved watching float planes take off and land from our room - we snagged a corner room with full glass walls.

We had pre-booked a few tours to Victoria and Whistler, plus a city tour through a local tour company and the PP hotel took care of re-confirming our reservation and letting us know exactly where to meet the tour guide.

We stayed at a hotel near the airport, which we often do, can't recall whether it was a Marriott or Hilton, too long ago. Do recall it was near the local subway line, so very easy to get back and forth to downtown Vancouver... we were there several days, also very near a very large shopping center, which we enjoyed visiting... had a large super market too. When we travel we often picnic...vs eat out and that worked out well for us.
