Looking for restaurant suggestions in the Honolulu area. I am talking about just a normal restaurant that is not a chain, not expensive (under $25 for dinner), not Dukes. Just someplace you enjoy the food and was worthy a trip back. Will be there 3 days prior our cruise, so lunch or dinner would be great. Thanks!

The Side Street Inn 614 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu. The locals recommend this place. Good parking & great food. Try the Ahi Poke. Reasonably priced with large portions. This restaurant has been featured on the travel channel.
If you want something quick, try the International Marketplace Food Court, Chinese at The Peking Garden. They just have counter service but the food is good and very inexpensive. Pick any three for $6.50. Have fun! |

We love Lulu's for the food, views, and Friday night music. Sharing an order of Kalua Pork Nachos with our favorite drinks while sitting in their open air restaurant, looking at the ocean or Diamond Head is a "must" when we are in Waikiki. Cherie p.s. They are open for B, L, and D. Their banana, mac nut pancakes are the best.

You might also enjoy La Mariana Sailing Club (a retro tiki bar), and Nico's Pier 38. Cherie

Posters have listed some really good local places for food. I would like to add "the Whole Ox" in Kakaako (not far from Aloha Towers Market Place). The chef/owner started out as a small pop-up restaurant. He grinds his own hamburger and it is really good. Love his watermelon salad too. Chef Bob is open for lunch and dinner. Very casual, bring your own wine.
Side Street Inn, Kapahulu, would also be high on my list (pork chops, fried rice, spareribs). The original restaurant, near Ala Moana Center, was a place that chefs would hang out after they were done with their shift. Served family style. Nico's (Furikake Seared Ahi/rare) was very charming before they moved into their new building (and they switched from Pepsi to Coke ). Big City Diner @ Ward Warehouse is a local hangout too.Renee (displaced local girl) Last edited by cr8tiv1; February 3rd, 2013 at 05:15 PM. |

Lulu's is owned by Dukes and has the same menu. It's also just above Dukes in Waikiki. |

The restaurant you refer to above Duke's on Waikiki is The Hula Grill. When we have been there they have had a different menu and we have enjoyed it. Lulu's is on the corner of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapahulu. It is across from the beach and Kapiolani Park. It is one of our favorites. Cherie

We ate at the Hula Grill last week and it certainly would not meet the original posters criteria of being under $25/pp. I think we spent more than that per person just for drinks! You have a great view of the beach, but that is reflected in the prices. Food was good (not great) and drinks weak.
While everything in Waikiki is expensive, we did enjoy the food at Round Table Pizza in the Ohana East hotel. Hot and fresh with lots of toppings. |

Sorry you are right it is Hula's above Dukes. But I must say that Dukes has one of the best coconut shrimp dishes I've ever had.
