Can't wait to see how they *spin* this.

Some of those hurricanes were hurricanes for a very short time, dropping back to tropical storms, or disappearing entirely.

We live in Florida and our local newspaper had an interview with one of the "experts" who predicted a very active season, with a lot of HITS on the Florida penninsula. He was so very disappointed his predictions were incorrect. I guess he'd be happy if all of he homes in Florida were blown away. This interview was done the first part of November and he said he still had a month to go, so he was "hoping" there was a chance the season would go out with a bang. Of course, he lives in Arizona.

I would imagine the people of the Costa Maya considered it "active" enough.

Default So much for.......

........the totallly made up story of how the scare of "global warming" is responsible for how horrible the hurricane forecast has been for TWO YEARS in a row.

Ludicrous......where are the explanations from these experts for ANOTHER totally off-the-beam forecast ????? Don't hear ANYTHING about this on the news now.....must think we're a bunch of fools with no memory.

We actually believed them AGAIN, which stopped us in our tracks about maybe taking last-minute-cruise in October....will ignore them next time.

I agree! I don't know of any other season that gave us 2 Category Five Hurricanes! As for me, I very very very happy that we did not get hit in Fla. I feel bad for the folks in Costa Maya got it. I would wonder if anyplace in the USA would call the season mild if two cattegory 5s storms came their way. Florida was lucky. Costa Maya was not.

Default tropical disturbance today

Below is the latest advisory from the National Weather Service (!2/10/07, 11:00 am). I hope this doesn't cause too many problems for the people cruising in the Caribbean this week.

SATELLITE IMAGES AND SURFACE REPORTS INDICATE THAT A CLOSED SURFACE
CIRCULATION HAS DEVELOPED IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE BROAD AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE NOW CENTERED ABOUT 200 MILES EAST OF PUERTO RICO. SHOWER
ACTIVITY WITH THE LOW REMAINS DISORGANIZED...HOWEVER...WITH THE
STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS LOCATED A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES NORTH AND
NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER. WHILE A TROPICAL OR SUBTROPICAL CYCLONE
COULD STILL FORM DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS...UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE
EXPECTED TO BECOME GRADUALLY LESS FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT OVER
THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE LOW DEVELOPS
FURTHER...IT COULD PRODUCE HEAVY SQUALLS AND GUSTY WINDS OF NEAR
GALE FORCE ACROSS THE VIRGIN ISLANDS AND PUERTO RICO LATER TODAY
AND TONIGHT AS IT MOVES WESTWARD OR WEST-SOUTHWESTWARD AT ABOUT 20
MPH. HEAVY RAINS OVER PUERTO RICO AND HISPANIOLA COULD CAUSE
LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD SLIDES...AND INTERESTS IN
THESE AREAS SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.

I agree....I might be tempted to look at October again.

Even with the two unfortunate category 5s the season was not what it was supposed to be.

I'm not discounting their experience *I'm sure the people of Costa Maya thought it was active enough* I've been through a direct hit category 4 in 2004, which, incidentally, the national experts miscalled, only our local weather forecasters got it right. I was sad for them because I know what a hurricane can do. I do however think the forecasters were secretly glad and were hoping for more so they could say they were right. Also, our insurance companies use the predictions of these incompetent "experts" to raise our insurance rates.
