Technically after they feel better and are released from quarantine, they can still transmit it up to a few weeks after symptoms wore off. Might be a huge part of the problem but I cant see them locking folks up the whole cruise.

Princess had 3 ships with it last year and this year its making its rounds on Princess again. We had it on the Ruby Princess (excellent ship and cruise) in Nov. We meaning the ship, I didnt get it thankfully.

right on MrPete - I brought this up on another thread a while ago too. Market Place (Canadian version of Dateline) did a study of the 10 dirtiest things and under the chair seat was number 1. Sinks, toilets, door handles, menus, table tops, salt and pepper shakes, catsup bottles, tooth pick dispensers, glasses all ranked below under the seat. That is one place that is very seldom ever cleaned. Sure opened my eyes.

People get so caught up with the spray lady on Norwegian. I think this is why they have a bigger noro problem. It is misleading and people think they are good to go. I was really disappointed when carnival put the dispensers by the MDR.

Not only do you have to wash your hands but you need to scrub for 30 seconds or you are wasting your time. We are taught to sing happy birthday while we scrub our hands lol.

I know that Princess seems to be the worst with reported cases.

I didn't know NCL had a lot of reported cases.

Our cruise on the Crown Princess in February was cancelled after 5 days as the amount of reported cases was very high.

They do??? I can't say I've noticed NCL being mentioned as having a higher rate of Noro than any other line out there. May I ask where you've seen this stat? I'd be interested in reading it.

I got quarantined one trip for 3 days because I was sick...guess they suspected noro virus. I've got 2 short cruises planned this month so I'm hoping we don't get any noro on my ships!

Cruise junkie add .com seems to have more Ncl ships listed with noro problems. But I think a lot of people who cruise a lot don't report the symptoms cuz they know they will be quarratined to their cabin. So maybe carnival has more seasoned cruisers.

Thanks!

Sadly, I think you may be onto something though

Norovirus is killed best by chlorine based cleaners rather than alcohol based cleaners. In other words, bring your Clorox wipes, and wash your hands since it usually spread from fecal contamination. Eww.

I had noro on my last cruise. I can tell you, you are right. I tried, hard. We were in cozumel and had pre-paid excursions, and I tried to man it out. No dice. Its impossible.

Also, I didnt bother going to the infirmary as I was warned by other passengers. They lock up you and your cabin mate for 24 hours. Immodium and Dramamine along with rest - thats the treatment.

Default Just came back from Carnival Dream 2 days ago with NORO

My first cruise and unfortunately last one. Got Noro, threw up all over the elevator with people in it. Was absolutely miserable for 2 days until we docked back in Port Canaveral, then slept at home for another day. Now husband got sick last night with the same symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting, chills, weakness and muscle pain. What makes me so mad is the fact that I was given absolutely no explanation, was treated like one of a cattle herd while waiting in the infirmary and Carnival crew did absolutely NOTHING when I was standing there in tears after throwing two times in front of 10 people in the elevator. Waited for somebody to help me for 15 minutes to no avail, so I dragged myself up the stairs to 9 th deck to my cabin and NOBODY even called or inquire if we were OK. So to sum it up: we paid 3K for a week of being hauled with 4,000 people from port to port to shop for trinkets, with mediocre entertainment, lukewarm food that was buffet quality, gym where not even one piece of equipment was available and then on top of that got sick and NOBODY cared... In 3 months I am taking my spring break vacation time to just buy a plane ticket to Europe like I always do, rent a car and explore on my own damn schedule!!!

Sorry you got sick on your first cruise. That does really stink! But I have to ask.....Explanation of what? You touched something and then either touched your mouth or face. Did you eat at the buffet? Did you wash your hands before eating?

It's that time of year. Noro is all over. Members of my family are sick with it now. You could have easily gotten if even if you were just at home. Shopping carts, door handles, gas pumps, you name it.

Hope you and hubby feel better soon!

It's 5 o'clock somewhere, and I have a license to chill.

I'm so sorry you had such an aweful cruise.

I just got back from the Pride cruise & this was my second cruise & each time I ended up with a sinus infection. I know it's not that big of deal for most people but I had TB when I was 3 years old so this is a big deal for me because if it isn't treatedright away it always goes into pnueumonia. I am geting better now, just in time to return to work tomorrow evening. Thankfully, I only work 1 night then have 3 off.

I exercise at least 3 times a week. Except I couldn't get into the gym on the cruise because it was too crowded, just like your cruise but during my spring break cruise the gym is dead & I only had one other person in the yoga class. It was awesome!!!!

I also think cruising may not be for me. I do enjoy it but I don't like getting sick. I have the Monsters of Rock cruise coming up in 74 days & I think after that I will just stick to camping out in the wild with all the critters & having good home cooked food prepared for by me!

I make 95% of all my food from scratch since I started exercising. I even make my own ketchup, mustard, yogurt etc so it's not like I am totally living an unhealthy lifestyle.

I just read an article on NBC's website that reported the Center for Disease Control estimates there are 21 million cases of Noro in the US annually. Cruise ships get a lot of attention because of the close quarters aboard, but it's really a drop in the bucket when you look at the overall numbers.

Noro is going around here on land too. I think it just spreads faster when you put that many people together. I don't think it has anything to do with the cleaniness of the ship. These things happen and it seems that it goes in cycles. I agree that I would not go to the clinic on the ship. There is absolutely nothing they can do. I also never travel anywhere even at home without Immodium. I had this a couple of months ago here at home and it is bad. I hope this outbreak stops quickly. I know everyone looks forward to their vacations and nobody likes their's to be ruined by a stomach virus.
