Easy way not to get caught is toonly bring on what the rules for your cruise line allow.

Depending on which line you are sailing on, you may be able to buy a punch card, a beverage package, or a bottle for the room. It will cost more than BYOB, but much easier!

My last cruise, every one of our bags was searched by security before being delivered. We know, because they left us notes. They even checked the seals on some of our bottles! We had brand new tubes and bottles of some personal items, and they still had the foil seals. We knew they checked the seals because of the condition of the boxes.
Point being, I wouldn't bother, easier to just pay to play.

If you can afford the costs of the cruise, you can afford the drinks.

And don't forget about the gratituties! Your agent explained that one, right? The service charge each day?

very good point, since traveling to NYC and crusing are our 2 main vacation, some lines such as HAL allow unlimited wine, brought over a case on several cruises ( also will sneak in a bottle of cognac or 2 and have never been caught)

I've never smuggled, and never even thought about it until reading about it here!

Otherwise, with every new method used to smuggle, in time security will get wise to it! They may not catch it all the time, but...

If I had the time, I'd come up with a fool-proof method to do this, and make a small fortune!

Not to be rude, but that being said: If you cannot afford the booze you probably cannot afford the cruise.

Basically, if your alcohol fits in your carry-on (size specific), you can bring it on the ship to drink in your stateroom. If you want to take a bottle of wine or champagne to dinner, you pay a corkage fee.

When I go on DCL late next year, we will take a small amout of Pepsi for my mom (Coke products on ship), some beer for my dad and maybe some wine for me. We will still buy drinks on the ship, but mainly ours will be for the balcony at night when we do not want to deal with room service to bring us drinks.

first night of my last cruise, we finished dinner and were on our way to the casino when we ran into the very long line for the naughty room. these people tried to smuggle alcohol onboard in their suitcases. they recieved a notice to come to the naughty room to pickup there luggage while it was searched. the people in that line were there for a very long time and were very agitated. not the way i want to spend the first night of my vacation! i'll just stick to purchasing alcohol on the ship.

Rules vary by cruise line. Best to ask this in the section for the line you will be cruising

going on first ever cruise and having read through this thread I know I'm going to love it. I thought topics would be about which is the best walking stick or zimmer frame to use at sea - alcohol smuggling is one of my favourite occupations, not just to save money because of how silly it is - as mentioned above. Thanks for all the tips but not sure if rum runners/shamboozers are available in Australia - will check as still have time to order them online.

The fool proof method I use is to bring it on in my stomach- they haven't caught me yet.

One can cruise without drinking, so not affording the booze has nothing to do really with affording the cruise, it just means that one needs to not drink as much as they would like in order to stay within budget.
