Turn off mobile data and then everything will go via WiFi where possible. I once made the mistake of not switching off data and my phone connected to a maritime network. Within to days my charge was £100GBP! If you need to keep in touch with people do it via Whatsapp or similar :)

If you buy the Wi-Fi package on the Divina,Can you use your cell phone to call or text home without paying your carriers charge also.

No. Wifi and calling/texting are two entirely different systems. I highly recommend putting phone in airplane mode for the entire trip. Agree on an app to communicate. Facebook messenger works fine, as does whatsapp :). Best to avoid surprises.
