"The dry dock for the ships is scheduled for December":

Am I right that this is December 2018 and not (as it was written in some other articles) this coming December (2017)? In December 2017 the Silver Whisper has one cruise after the other, in December 2018 there is a gap between Dec. 7 and Dec. 20.

It would be nice to have links to the information that supports this report. Is the year 2017 or 2018. Wind is booked solid in December 2017.
According to Mark Conroy, the work will be done while the ship is in service. The works includes the following:

Technical Improvements

  1. Cold fresh water pipe renewal
  2. Increase outdoor heaters for La Terrazza and Pool Grill

Refurbishment - inspired by Silver Muse

  1. Outdoor Furniture – Balcony furniture
  2. Carpet Replacement – All Staircases/Hallways
  3. Observation Lounge – New carpet, new curtains & full furniture replacement
  4. La Terrazza – New carpet, new curtains/chair re-upholstery and new wall paper
  5. Panorama Lounge – New carpet replacement of chairs/sofas, new curtains, new wall paper, new ceiling
  6. Reception/Main Stair Mid Ships – New Wall Paper
  7. Suites – All standard suites, replacement of desk top with a new wood lamination

The next major dry dock isn't scheduled until December, 2018.

Is Mr. Conroy going to address the dry dock info for the Spirit (as asked in his question and answer session) or did I miss something there.....? I guess we're in the dark here as to what's supposed to actually happen to the Spirit...stretched? reupholstered? (haha!), etc. Maybe I missed the info....

Whilst not wishing to underplay the importance of the Refurbishments, it is interesting to see that Silversea are announcing Chair & Carpet changes to the Casino as worthy of advance notice of work on The Wind, as well as upgrades to The Spa. If this is the level of Refurb we are to expect I will not get too excited. It sounds remarkably like the last hyped Refurb to The Wind which in all major identifiable areas looked just the same after the work as before it was carried out.

I'm not a logistical expert when it comes to refurbish cruise ships but I'm sure that all these works definitely can't be done while the ship is in service. To bring in new furniture for the balconies might be possible, but in order to change all the carpets in the public areas you have to take the ship into the dry dock. Having been on a ship where due to unforeseen circumstances they had to change parts of the carpet in one venue I know which inconveniences this causes to passengers and crew.

You certainly do not have to dry dock a ship to change carpets. You might take it out of service for 48 hours, but you don't have to take it out of the water. Yes, it is inconvenient, but is a minor thing. They can do a lot of the work during the day while the ship is in port which will minimize impact on the passengers.

As far as carpet goes and where it's going, we've actually to bed and have found new carpeting in the morning.

Would still really like to know what's happening with the Spirit. I guess Mr. Conroy is done answering our questions....still several that haven't been addressed.....oh wellllllll.........!

It certainly would be good to find out the actual reason for the Spirit cancellations from Silversea. Whilst everyone has their own opinion on what is likely happening (i.e. Musifying by cutting in half and expanding and various other possible options)... it certainly would be good to hear this direct or read it on the website or official email.

Agree with what Mayflower said earlier re Wind refit. The changes were barely noticeable, though I suspect the changes were mostly to stave off the complaints she is looking old and shabby.

So I'm guessing we're not going to hear more from Mr. Conroy? He's done? Several questions not answered......oh welllll.......not what I want to hear. Will not book anything on the Spirit until we know just what's happening with the ship....I guess not important with the new Muse and the new Moon....disappointed.

I think it was my very early Spirit question that he did not get around to answering, and I am a bit disappointed. However, I also understand that there may be logic/wisdom behind his silence. First, some plans may still be unsettled. Second, it may be that they would like to make a big, coherent, detailed announcement at what seems to them to be the appropriate time (at a travel conference?) and do not want to dribble out information in a venue like CC.

I'm disappointed too, but do think you may have some logic about this. It might've been nice however, if he said something like "we'll have to get back to you on that....things are still in flux...." or some sort of comment, at least addressing the question.

Not for me to speak up for anyone, but there was an early post that said some questions might require a delay for further info. Also whilst taking cruises is CC'ers leisure activity it is Mark's work and he was answering until Friday nd has simply not logged over his weekend, which I guess no one begrudges!

It is perfect;y understandable that posters wish to receive responses to questions as soon as possible, but at the same time I think it is in everyone's interest that Mark and Sarah doesn't find the experience oppressive and counter productive.

Hopefully, in time all questions will receive a response. :)

Sounds like a pretty reasonable thought there, Jeff.

I guess we'll just have to hold off on our booking.....or not booking! Tick tock, tick tock.....(not trying to be snarky, just a little frustrated!)

Given the cruises were cancelled several months ago, you would have thought that was enough time to make their minds up what they intended on doing in the dry dock period, but i suppose as that also appears to have been extended further by starting in February, maybe it's still being decided after all.

Still find it odd when cancellations are made, nothing is sent out to let guests know, even if the specifics aren't yet understood. Poor communication is a very major problem at Silversea and let's them down badly IMHO.

Not knowing deck plans, how can anyone decide which suite to chose, or learn renumbering means they are now next to elevators or below the pool deck. (Or some other area you might otherwise have chosen to avoid.) Sorry, but I think this is something that should be a high priority and completely understand your frustration.
