New Solo Cruiser Thinking About Azamara

Hello, I'm a long time Celebrity "sail-er" who recently lost her husband. I think this Thanksgiving is going to be a tough one and heard about the solo special on Quest over Thanksgiving.

One of the places I really enjoy on Celebrity is Cafe al Bacio; the coffees and teas and tasty treats. Does Quest have anything like this?

It sounds like solos are pretty welcome on the AZ ships. That'd be nice to find.

Yes, Azamara's two ships have coffees, teas, and tasty treats all day in the Mosaic Cafe and all afternoon in The Living Room, a top deck forward lounge. Plus there's tapas in The Living Room from 5 to 8 in the evening. All included in the cruise fare.

I am so sorry about your recent lost. Welcome to Azamara. I sailed on her many times. Lots of lovely people on board. You will love the guest and the warm welcome the officers give,

I am so sorry for your recent loss. I am in a similar boat (no pun intended) and will spend this Thanksgiving on the Journey. I have sailed solo on Azamara five times (with another five solo booked, plus one with family) and never had a dull moment. People rave about the crew, but I find the passengers to be outstanding and welcoming. I appreciate the open seating, so you can mingle and meet new people. In the Windows buffet, I have never felt awkward asking to join a table, or asking others to join my table if I see them walking around holding their trays. From what I have read recently this is not done on some other lines. That said, I have often spent hours alone reading and feel no pressure to join in.

The solo traveler 125 percent price is an added bonus, and when there is the BOGOHO promo the solo rate is 150 percent. I hope you consider Azamara and enjoy yourself.

I am very sorry to hear about your loosing your husband. Welcome to Azamara. I am also sailing during Thanksgiving. Register at our roll call if you are on the Quest. It is a great opportunity to meet others.

Thank you all for your kind replies, I think I'm going to go.

Two more questions:

The cabins offered on the Thanksgiving Special are all outsides (fine with me). Are there any in particular you'd recommend as good or to stay away from? Some of them are next to the lifeboats, don't know how obstructed they are.

Second, do you use your regular travel agent or do you go through Azamara directly?

I really like the cat 05s. 4046 is available and I'd probably choose that one as it has a bulkhead wall next to it (potential for less noise from one side at least). Or 4052. Both good spots. The door to Guest Relations office is on the other side outside 4055, 4053. I'm in the UK and use a travel agent. Unfortunately you can't name travel agents here.

All the best with the booking and good for you for getting back in the driving seat. I've met a few people on Azamara in similar circumstances to yours. Hopefully you'll make some new cruise friends and never look back!

Many of the obstructed oceanviews are very obstructed. If these are the cabins on deck 6 behind the lifeboats, they are also much smaller than the unobstructed oceanviews.

Glad to hear you are going. The outside cabins with restricted view are not nice. If you can avoid those. Best outside cabins are on deck 4. I always use a travel agent for my bookings.

If you have sailed with Celebrity before, you might have a Captains Club status. This gives you a similar status with Azamara.

Welcome gardyloo and I'm so glad you have decided to book. I think Azamara is one of the best cruiselines for solo cruisers. Everyone is so friendly and you can do as much mingling....or as little, as you want. I was on Journey last week with my mother and she went to bed at about 10 pm, so I socialised with a small group of friendly solo travellers at night. Hi Phil (not Excited of Harpenden!), Jim, Maria, Julie and Caz.

There is also a Cruise Director hosted solo traveller table in the MDR, which helps to break the ice and meet up with kindred spirits. It is easy to join a shared table for dinner in the MDR. I would also suggest you join your roll call and maybe arrange some private tours with other people and do go to your Cruise Critic Meet&Mingle....some lifelong friendships made there Hazel. :)

I agree with Phil....this time of Harpenden 😄...the Cat 5 OV cabins on Deck 4 are the best OV on the ship....as long as you don't go too far forward. I would say anything forward of 4020/4021 and you are likely to be woken very early with the noise of the anchor chain and bow thrusters.

Thank you for the tip Lottie, I'm really looking forward to this relaxing trip. I'm in the mid ship area on 4, but have been offered a potential balcony çabin for a small added fee. My TA saId the upgrade is because I'm elite on Celebrity.

Some of the Celebrity ships also have small tables close together. DH and I used to enjoy having our own space but visited with other tables. That'll be nice to do again
