What is the problem with tour providers in Tahiti?

The web site tahiti-tourisme.com lists several tour providers on the major islands of Tahiti. Over the last two months, I have emailed most of these providers, many several times. As yet, I have received zero replies. Do these companies even exist? Has anyone had any luck in booking a private tour with any tour provider in Tahiti? Is it common practice there to ignore emails? I have found a few references for tour providers here on CC, but even those ignore my emails. It looks like I am going to be forced to take the Princess tours this time.

Which tours are you interested in? I was able to arrange tours with a couple of operators, via email.

I am interested in any tours I can get for six people - I have tried all categories of tours and there has been no reply to emails - many sent again and again over the past two months. I would like to know your secret for getting them to reply.

Not sure of your itinerary, or who you have been emailing, but my suggestion is to check the Paul Gauguin board. There are many tour operators referenced there, and the web addresses are often provided by satisfied cruisers. We usually take the ship's tours when traveling on the Paul Gauguin, but our last trip included a private trip with Patrick Tairua in Bora Bora - a 3/4 day (he has others) snorkeling and Tahitian lunch feast that was just great. http://www.Patrick.bora@fp. Never had a problem hearing back from him within a day or two. There is another tour operator named Bruno that is mentioned on the board quite a bit.Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, SSSue. Will give that a try.

Certain Tour operators seem to be online more than others. Patrick (for instance) usually gets back to us within 24 hours, other tour operators on Raiatea and Rangiroa seem to take up to a week or more, especially Rangiroa.

We have always booked private tours in FP, and it just takes a bit of patience and sometimes emailing them more than once. They often have problems with the internet down there also, so that could be adding to your problem.

So far, we have arranged private tours on Moorea (two seperate tours), Bora Bora, Rangiroa and Huahine without much effort. It might also be the tours you are trying to arrange. If you could list some of them, we might be able to assist as possibly the contact info you have is wrong, or other problems. Good luck!

Thanks once again, Toto for all the suggestions. You have been a big help. I have emails into a few more providers so we will see if they respond. It seems that my group has no problem going with Princess this time if nothing else materializes. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Cruiseidaho - we are doing private tours as well and while some have been great with the responses (Bora Bora, Huahine and Raiatea), we have had a lot of frustrations with our experience with the responses with Rangiroa. It seems that there have been a lot of issues with their internet access which has caused a lot of delays.

If you can let us know where you are looking we would be very happy to share the options we found. Even though the communications have been tough at times, we have to say that everyone has been very helpful once we had successful contact. Kimberly

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions. I really appreciate your taking the time and effort to help. Many have suggested patience and that seems to be good advice as answers to some of my emails have started to come in just this morning, months and weeks later. We still have five months before the cruise, so we should have ample time to set up tours on Moorea, Bora Bora and Raiatea. Tours that would include the major attractions on each island is what we as first time visitors would be looking for. Any referrals would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to all.

Kimberly, thank you for the offer. The options you found for Raiatea would be a big help. I appreciate your reply.

We arranged for our own tours on Moorea and Bora Bora. We also visited Aitutaki and arranged for our own tour there. You can look at my lengthy trip report on the Paul Gauguin as I posted all the info.

Thanks for the referral to your report. Wow! What a wealth of information and detail. Thanks for taking the time to share your trip - it answers a lot of questions.

Our roll call group (Nov 29 Royal Princess) has booked excursions in each port with private operators and had fairly quick responses to email. Sometimes the FP internet and email seems to be problematic and the operators have been most apologetic for any delay. In some cases I had to resend my email when I did not hear back within a week. The operators we have successfully communicated and booked with are:

Marc Le Sun huahine-nautique.com reservation@huahine-nautique.com

Raie Manta Club Rangiroa [raiemantaclub@mail.pf] - www.raiemantaclub.com

Tereva Excursions Rangiroa terevaexcursions@mail.pf

L’excursion Bleue- Raiatea/Ta’haa -http://www.tahaa.net/?p=-1 tpt@mail.pf

Patrick's Maohinui Bora Bora patrick@mahinui.net http://www.maohinui.net/index.php FONT]

Tupuna Safari 4x4 Bora Bora http://boraboraisland.com/tupuna/ or tupuna.bora@mail.pf

Thanks!

See my earlier correction to Patrick's email. As we will be going on our cruise about 3 months before yours, I will be able to report back on how our various excursions went. They have all been highly recommended so I have high expectations.

Kimberly, thank you for the offer. The options you found for Raiatea would be a big help. I appreciate your reply.

Cruiseidaho - We are doing the same tour as Banditoo on Raiatea. Bruno was very quick to respond so we didn't research other options.

We are also doing some of the other tours he listed but we thought we would add a couple more options for you:

Bora Bora - Keishi Tours - tk.haunui@mail.pf and here is his website: http://keishi-tour.com/home.html (We have friends who did this tour and they said it was the highlight of their trip.)

Rangiroa - PA'ATI EXCURSIONS - Leon Revault - revaultleon@mail.pf

Good luck with your planning. Kimberly

Kimberly - When are you doing the Bora Bora tour with Kieshi? Would be very interested in your review of this day. Thank you.

Bucky3 - We are doing the Keishi tour on November 2nd. Here is a link where we first read about the experience. http://travel.yahoo.com/trip-journal-699799-bora_bora_honeymoon.

We sent this link to our friends and they booked it for their honeymoon. They said it was their all-time favorite tour.

We will post a review on our return. Kimberly
