Default Cancellation of drink package?

I am sure I read somewhere on these boards that you could cancel your drink package after a few days and they would prorate it, if you found you weren't "getting your money's worth". Now I can't find where I read it. There is some discussion in our group with so much time in port etc. would we need it. I also looked on Celebrity's website and couldn't find it. Can someone who has done this (cancelled) or knows where the policy is on the website please enlighten me on the rules.....nicely. Thank you.

This is all I could find on the website:

You searched FAQ for: Beverage Packages
Can I cancel or modify my beverage package purchase?
Yes, orders can be canceled or modified up to four days prior to your sail date either online or by calling 1-800-722-5941. Orders that are canceled up to four days prior to your sail date will be refunded back to the credit card originally used for purchase. Any cancellations beyond that point must be handled onboard and will be refunded to your SeaPass account. Cancellations are not allowed after embarkation day.

and this:

Cancellations or refunds will not be issued onboard the vessel after embarkation day. (This was in the disclaimer info under the Beverage Packages)

Hope this helps...tho probably not the answer you wanted.

Woody

Would it not be better to wait until you're onboard and see how much your drinking in the first few days and then compare with the drinks package, because you can take out a pro -rata package once you are on board?

Does this make sense?

I know what you're saying, but our first day is the sea day, so the thought has been the first 2 days would be the high consumption days and from that point on we are in port and will be off the ship for most of the day.

Maybe I was dreaming L

Talking Packages not worth the money

If you are not a heavy drinker, the alcoholic drink packages make no financial sense. Just calculate how many drinks you would consume during the cruise and compare it to a beverage package. You will likely be even at best.

You don't necessarily need to be a heavy drinker, you need to be a quality drinker. I will only drink $12+ glasses of wine and $10 grey goose martinis. 2 of each in a day puts me pretty much even when you add in good coffee and bottled water. On most days I will also add morning mimosas and a cocktail in the casino. If you are happy with basic $6-$7 cocktails then no, it's not good financial sense.

I keep looking at this and doing the math and it's not worth it for us. I've never held back on buying what I want to drink, but it would be $1,300 for two premium packages. We've never come close to $1,300 on drinks especially in the Med. The other drawback is we are wine drinkers, but usually order a nice bottle. I'm not that impressed with their by the glass selections. I think DH will go ala carte and an in room bar set up and I may get the Premium Non Alcoholic and I might look at the Taste the Vineyards package.

When cruising the Caribbean I always opt for the Classic package. Between the specialty coffees, bottled water (to take ashore, by the pool and before bed), fresh-squeezed juice at breakfast and cocktails (before and after dinner, in the casino, by the pool, wine with dinner...not to mention the occasional "breakfast of champions"..and whatnot) I always save money. This package includes some surprising things including Stoli and Ketel One vodka. This is a very personal decision depending on your habits on a cruise and I think that is one of the best things Celebrity has ever done.....giving everyone a personalized cruise experience.

We will be on the 11 night Ultimate Caribbean next year and have been going back and forth with getting the premium packages.... have decided we will give it a few days (both at sea days and port days), and check if it would be worth it for us. We don't necessarily care about bottled water, speciality coffees, or fresh squeezed juices- it would be mostly for the alcoholic beverages.

Yes, my husband did this a few days into a cruise when he realized that the package wasn't right for him. There was absolutely no problem and yes, the package was prorated

Might be worth a phone call to X, if they confirm that a package can be cancelled mid-cruise, have them send you an e-mail confirming it. I do know you can buy the packages any time during the cruise, as long as there are at least 3 days remaining. I would think if cancelling mid cruise were an option, it would be publicized and known to all which it doesn't seem to be, and they would lose an awful lot of customers after a couple of days after getting their fill. Maybe you can cancel if there are 3 or more days remaining also, so on a 7 day cruise you need to decide by day 4 if your in or out.

My vote, you can't get out of it once you commit and you can commit up to the 3 days remaining in the cruise. So, if you buy pre-cruise or day one, its like being in the mob, your in, you can't get out.

These boards will give you all kinds of answers, opinions, and ideas, but I'd feel uncomfortable accepting them as gospel without at least a few buy ins from the experienced cruisers.

I was under the impression that once you purchased it, it was for the rest of the cruise whether you purchased on day one or day five. Never heard of being able to back out after a day or so.

Since this is not written in any of the official Celebrity documentation...NEVER assume it will be applied to your case. It will be very dependent on the whim of the particular ship OR while it has been allowed in the past as an unwritten allowable thing - at any time Head Office may send out a directive telling each ship to no longer give that flexability.

I wouldn't think that Celebrity advertises the fact that one can opt out of the package. Obviously, they don't want you to.

We didn't go expecting that we could opt out. But, for the second time, we had absolutely no problem.

p.s. I should add that we purchased our drink package on board and asked if we could cancel it if it wasn't right for us.

So if you are unsure, you might want to consider waiting till you are on board and verifying that it is canceable.
